The siding is immaterial. The framing systems are where the connection points are.

I think your terminology is confusing everyone. I think you are talking about how the siding on the upper story will physically and visually connect with the brick on the lower story.

Most brick house are now just brick facing, so when they frame the 2nd story you will have the framing attached to and even with the lower floor framing. However, the face of the brick will be "proud" of the framing and sheathing by about 5" or more (tyvek, air space, plus thickness of the brick etc).

To make the siding connection you can add z-shaped flashing that nails to the upper floor sheathing, extends out over the brick and extends a short distance down the brick to shed moisture. Another option is to add insulation to the upper wall and make it nearly flush with the brick. Its getting more common to insulate well beyond code, and you can use sheets of closed cell foam on the exterior to make the wall thicker and better insulated. For example adding 3" of foam and another layer of sheathing would get you a wall that is about 3 1/2" thicker. You would have to ensure your windows are ordered with deeper jams, but many folks find the extra-deep window sills attractive, since they look more upscale.
