no chance.. someone peeled all the bark off it ... basically killing its circulatory system .. the cambium layer ... no water up to the leaves.. no energy down to the roots ....

Is the bark stripped off? I thought that was white paint. There are splatters on the wall.

Yeah the trunk was painted white prior to us moving. There are some spots where some has been stripped back, either by an animal or just it peeling off, but there still seems to be bark on most of the trunk. I am concerned about the large crack however, but that was also here when the tree was healthy.

Looks like drought! The roots are probably dead. Look at the others trees surrounding that one. Older mature ones withering away, turning yellow and brown. I hope you get a deep soaking soon.

Oh my that’s terrible! Maybe it’s a disease I don’t know anything that would cause it to die that fast Even under watering.

Sorry for the loss of your beautiful tree. What has probably happened is the wall has heated up and the radiant heat from the brick has dried out the trunk. If air temperature was 104 F the wall would be considerably hotter. The split in trunk implies the wood has dried and shrunk. Not a good sign.
