It's not the best picture to try on colors because of the glare so I also painted the side lights so you can see the color more. Some people like the side lights painted, some don't. I like them painted

Unless you're in the far north where weather might require a storm door, it will detract from the front door. With so much overhanging roof for protection, I would eliminate the storm. We don't actually know what the style of your door is. Open the storm and take a close up of it please. I think you should consider both the door, upstairs shutters, window/corner trim when looking at paint colors. Is that water damage on the right side of the porch roof? Do you need a gutter system? Unless the railing is required by code in your locale, I think the house would look better with just the posts. The front step and walk need widening to at least the width of the entire door and sidelights for a nice secure step and for visual balance. Be sure the step itself is at least 12" deep. That present one just looks vestigial and hazardous to me. If that "fan" above the upper window can be removed, that would be a big update to the overall look. However, the siding may look a different color behind it, and there will be holes to fill/repair. Still may be worth the effort and you may want to consider painting the siding to freshen things up a bit. Those would be first steps before deciding on door color.

I always hate taking a particular side in a conversation like this, but I think a black door would work really well here. It will create a bit of contrast with the rest of the exterior palette, allowing the entry to visibly pop. You want your entry to be a focal point. A black door would also coordinate well with the two sconces on either side. However you decide to proceed, we would recommend painting the sidelights the same color as the door.

I like the current red, but black would work, too. I think the storm should go black as well. You don't need the railing, but I would leave it. I agree that if you can get the fan off, do that. You might want to paint the shutter black.

Dose that side of the house get significant rain or wind or the cold?

Maybe there is a reason someone paid big $$ for a storm door.

If you haven't been there through 4 seasons, I would leave it up and see what happens.

IMO get rid of the storm door to actually see the door and IMO the door and side lights are all one and should be painted the same . Are you planning on painting the sididing if so this is anice look with the brick

We are the original owners. My husband put in the storm door about 5 or 6 years ago mainly for the use of a screen door. I’ve never really been a fan of it. We rarely have the front door open anymore and it squishs my wreaths lol.

In your neck of the woods, is having your door open with the just the screen door closed important for that friendly neighbor feeling that communicates "Hi, I'm home, I'm approachable?" If so, keep that screen door.

Being perceived as neighborly is way more important than how well people can see the color of your door.

You can punch up the color with your plantings in front of the house and with hanging baskets hung from the porch ceiling.

And you can still have your red door.

The glass on the top slides down and the screen slides up. So it’s a storm door & a screen door all in one! I want to replace the brass knocker and handle so that door won’t work anyway. Hubby is fine taking it down.

I love that screen door, wish I had one like it! I know you want it gone but thinking maybe try painting it black if you’re getting a black door. You can always decide to take it out later. I like having my door open so I get fresh air in. You have a beautiful home, enjoy your renovation!
