Mine was always very bright orange. Never saw it turn pink but I'm in Michigan and it's hard to say what tropical sun might do.

Is rose blackspot a problem in the Caribbean? I do know dew points in the 70s(F) are common by you this time of year. I’m asking because comments about FC on HMF indicate BS resistance/ tolerance is not good. Ben sprays his roses.

How do HTs in general do the second ( and subsequent) years that close to the equator?

The temperature during midday can get past 35 degrees Celsius. Roses can survive, Ive had one years ago that did very well. Currently, mine are doing ok, they’re all new and I am pretty new to this as well - hence, I have ZERO idea what FC & HMF are. Roses love sun, which is great. The trick is to find the right location that provides full sun but some cover to filter it a tad. The area I initially had success in, didn’t work this time around. All died. Overall I would say it is a bit difficult to work with roses in this climate.

Oh and yes, black spot can be an issue, but I haven’t had a major problem thus far. I remove any foliage that looks diseased and I have never had reason to spray my roses!

Looked at your comment again and realised FC is fragrant cloud but that’s as far as I got with the abbreviations lol it’s been over 2 months and several days per week, we have had stormy conditions with flash flooding in lowlands from torrential rain. I think this is the reason my previous young plants died. I’ve opted now for a much more expensive source,‘I’ve gotten more mature plants but still have a lot of growing to do. Hoping for the best. Will post once they’re established

Follow those who post from south Florida, as there are several on this forum, and their climate is likely closest to yours, RaeAnna. They might be able to steer you to modern Roses suitable to your area. China Roses, and several tea Roses might fair pretty well in your neck of the woods too.

HMF stands for Help Me Find and is a web site with plant data bases. In this case roses but they also do clematis and peonies. Just Google Help Me Find Roses and it should come up. It's a wonderful place full of valuable information!

It's a special variety I first received as a gift from my grandparents years ago while they were RV'ing across the southern states.

I've never had FC be pink; it's generally a very orangey-red with deeper reverses. In cool autumn weather, it CAN get quite red, though. A rather difficult colour to appropriately capture.

Yours looks a bit different from the ones I have seen so far in terms of the flower shape and the number of flowers on one stem, but the colour is similar. I forgot that I started this thread before purchasing, thanks to everyone who shared their photos! @Bent you’re absolutely right! They’re never hot pink. I took another trip to the store and I found a flowering coral rose next to the hot pink. Turns out, they were both labelled as “first prize” but another that was exactly the same, was tagged as FC. I brought this to their attention and it was quickly sorted! Seil thank you for your input also! When I got it, there was an old bloom on it that was coral, the next day, a new one opened and it was exactly like you said! The smell is WONDERFUL! I stop and get a good deep whiff each time I’m passing it hehe

I've had Fragrant Cloud for about five years now and it's about 4x4 ft. Here's a bush shot from two years ago when it was about half the size.

It now blooms in loads of sprays like the one at the top of the bush. It's so hard to get an accurate photo of the color but the one above is pretty good. There's also a lighter version as shown below which isn't exactly coral but it's lighter.

FC is consistently fragrant and blooms almost continuously.

Gorgeous photos!!!! Everyone says that it’s so hard to capture the true colour in a photo, I fully agree. It’s almost impossible but I love when it’s the lighter shade too!
