I don't like the torchere, mainly because the light is cast to the ceiling.

You could do a floor lamp

Open your french door, stand outside, and shoot a picture showing the other angle. Or, go further back in the above picture so we can see more

Use plug-in wall-mounted sconces. At least one at each end of the sofa, and maybe more on the other walls. Choose ones with frosted glass or white fabric shades.

torchieres are great light producers especially in a room that seems to have no overhead light, the up light will cast around the room, so they are not always bad. Honestly, I think about any lamp will look like baby in the corner in this case. Can you put a lamp somewhere else?
