They are usually more modern and sometimes easier to operate for kids, older folks, etc. Definitely not "cheap" - unless - they are. Cheap faucets that look cheap can be had in any configuration!

I have used both and for myself would only select single hole faucets. So much easier to clean and there is never an issue with levers on the H and C not lining up and requiring adjustments.

I agree, they usually tend to look more modern (although you can find some traditional ones) and are easier to operate for kids and elderly and the disabled. We're putting them our secondary bathrooms of our new build. I much prefer a single hole faucet over a 4-in. spread.

I prefer single hole and I do tend towards a more modern aesthetic. I think they are easier for everyone to use.

Every sink faucet we've added or replaced (I think we're on 4 now) has been single hole.
I can guarantee you, ours were not cheap and don't look cheap. We've used Kohler, Toto and Eisengard - all from plumbing stores, not big box stores, so it's the solid sort. Very easy to use and keep clean. Also means only one hole per faucet in the counters. (We have one pedestal sink, a double sink vanity where they're mounted in the granite by undermount sinks, and one in a semi vessel sink where the faucet is in the sink itself: https://www.totousa.com/arvina-rectangle-vessel-lavatory-inset-19. I think the last one is my favorite.

When I remodeled my house I used a few single hole faucets, they weren't cheap, specially when you select something other than a chrome finish!

What I regret is choosing faucets with the handle above the spout, like the photos shown by Beverly. Next time I will find models that have the handle on the side and save myself from having to clean the drips on the top of the spout constantly. The teenager was the worst with his bathroom faucet, which had a wide flat spout.

I'm planning on single-hole faucets, both for the look and for slightly easier cleaning around them.

I have installed single hole faucets in 3 bathrooms and what I like most is the additional counter space for items like soap, tooth brush holders, etc. I have both the Delta Trinsic with the handle on the right and the one with the handle on the top. My family all prefers the handle on the top for functionality but I like the look of the handle on the side. The handle on the side gets annoying if you need to turn the water on with your left hand and then get water on your arm and clothes. I do like the look of a wide-spread faucet but I wouldn't go back to it now. I recently stayed in a hotel with widespread and was annoyed the space I wanted to use for facial wash and lotion was taken up by handles. I also noticed more water on the counters with widespread.
