I’d paint the entire room that color.

    Face the sofas.

I have lowered your mantle and TV so the wall has a better balance. If the blue stays then the wall color must be linked to the sofa color in some fashion so I have selected rugs with both blue and cream.

The TV looks high to me, so I like what Beverly did with it for more balance. It's still high but better. The larger rug is nice, too.

I think fireplace surround and hearth would help. The fireplace looks marooned in space.

I think you should lower your mantle and add some tile. Agree with a colorful rug and some pillows.

Move the shelving unit to the wall beside the TV. Consider moving your TV.

I appreciate the thought to use the color for the whole living room. I just wonder if I can do that, given the living room is part of a much larger space that includes the dining room?

Nope, do not paint the whole room that color, but it's important to reinforce the color with accessories so it looks like it was planned.

Your blue wall is doing what my green one did in my kitchen SUCKING ALL THE LIGHT. So far can't say any of the TV ideas work for me. It's too high for sure. Appears you have a mantle JUST for TV and that's not working for me. I think I would try putting it in the corner and getting rid of the shelf. swap the chair and the love seat..not sure I would like it blocking entrance/defining the space but I would have to try.

Some other ideas. Your fireplace is floating on the wall, and the shelf is so high that it's visually a TV shelf and not a fireplace mantle. I think the wall would look better with a connection between the shelf/mantle and the fireplace. You could tile or even paint f you're not planning to move the shelf at this point. It would also anchor the fireplace to the floor visually. And I would paint over the brass trim on the fireplace.

I agree with all the FP/mantle comments in that the mantle needs to be lowered both to make it visually more appealing and more comfortable for TV watching. The problem with an accent color that is darker than the other walls is that it automatically draws your eyes to it so that whatever is on that wall becomes more pronounced. It is a large wall so maybe some kind of shelving on each side would make it feel more balanced (this assumes you would move the accent chair closer to the sofa and possibly eliminate or add to the shelves you already have).
Also definitely agree you should have a bigger rug, one that can have at least the front legs of your furniture on it.
As Beverly suggested, use the rug as well as other accessories like artwork and pillows to tie the accent wall, adjoining walls and other dominant colors together.

Pretty color @Cheryl Roney! Have you tried rearranging the furniture? What if you have the two couches/loveseats face each other, and bring the left side closer in to be about the same distance from rug as the right side? It’s hard to tell if there is room for a walkway between the living room and dining room. But that may define the space and create a sense of filling the room/space without adding anything to the wall

Dislike the chrome bookcase/shelves. If you want storage get something with a solid front - like a cabinet. It could be a painted piece, maybe with the ivory. Love the darker blue rug idea above by Beverly. Definitely play up the blues with throw pillows too. Also agree with the mantle being too high. Also, not sure you need any mantle as you are using it only as a divider for the TV. The TV really is too big for over the fireplace opening and makes the fireplace opening seem puny by comparison. Maybe the TV could go on a piece of furniture that also provides storage on the other wall opposite the other sofa. Don't know because we cannot see that side of the room. A fabulous painting or wall hanging over the fireplace would really make the room sing.

I like the idea of painting the other 2 living room walls that color, getting a rug to tie it in, and facing the sofas. Also get curtains that are mainly cream or white with a subtle design and color nod to the wall color. Replace the coffee table with a fabric one and if the mantle is there because of code, put the tv on the opposite wall in the middle. Then decorate the mantle. You’ll still have the chair to figure out, because I’m not sure where it could live. Have fun with the space!

Personally I would find a match for the shelving you now have off to one side and then put the 2 units on either side of the fireplace. I agree with the comment that the color (which I like!) is "sucking" up light, but the shelves appear to be glass and metal, so if you use them display a few light-reflective things, that will help. I don't think the 2 units need to be an exact match,

You definitely have enough natural light in there to add plants, to the shelves or even a small tree on the floor. Normally I wouldn't say this but seeing your dining room, I'm wondering if a larger shag rug in the living room would be fun and warm up the space. Or how about a large round rug to help cozy up the space?

Lastly I would go for a more compact armchair in the corner of the living room closest to the dining room, maybe one with a curved back, and comfortable to be a reading spot.

I like Partim's idea of painting the surround of the firebox so it looks more intentional. Easy, fast and cheap solution to the "floating" problem. I would not paint more walls this color. The blue is lovely, but too much and the room will be too dark.

Your shelf and tv are floating and fireplace looks like it’s in a hole. Build a surround to anchor everything and the shelf will become a mantel. Use whatever material you want for the surround and paint the brass on fireplace black. I really like the other elements in the room.

How about turning your existing rug the other way then adding a natural sheepskin hearth rug lengthwise in front ofr the fireplace?

When you have a gas fireplace, you can't always put the mantle directly above it due to fire hazard. I learned this during install. The way to get around it and make it safe is to add a metal plate to the bottom of the mantle. A fireplace store should be able to help you with this. That's what I had to do so i could put the mantle directly above the fireplace. Love the color!

Yes exactly it is code that dictates the height unfortunately. I would imagine the metal underneath would get hot. But I will look into it. Thanks!

As you pointed out the dining room is directly attached to the living room. You can make the two cohesive by introducing some blue accessories to the dining room such as a runner, a nice bowl or tray, a painting, or a rug, or perhaps drapes.

I would suggest framing in the TV and lowering it a bit. Go wide with the and paint it a lighter color, maybe the same as the other walls in a satin finish. Paint the mantel the same color and lower it also, if possible. I would agree that the fireplace needs to be trimmed around in a light marble tile with a wide molding trim around it in a light color also. the wall will really pop with some the light color and enlarging the look of the TV and fireplace. Also, a larger rug will make the space look more open but still feel cozy. Use a few print pillows instead of the solid ones to bring in the blue wall color,

I would put a canvas to hide the TV when not in use. Do an abstract piece which

picks up the other wall color and add a green and your favorite color(s) to the canvas. you can paint the canvas yourself. on a prestretched frame. use the shelf to hide TV,,,no need to hang on wall.
