Acer tree trunk ok?

If not, could it be turned into something strong with some choice pruning? It's really quite pretty.. my photos don't do it justice. I'm just wondering about that crotch/trunk area. I saw this at a local nursery on sale. I hoped you guys might give your opinion if you're so inclined. It seems to be the last one so I'm wondering if people aren't buying it for a reason.

To be honest, it doesn't look great for a tree already discounted and still in the $200 range. I wouldn't buy it. Too much scarring on the trunk and some visible dieback and pretty sparse foliage. It hasn't been well treated.

How tall is it and how big is that pot? Looks like it may have been hanging around too long in too small a container as well.

Thanks for your feedback. I'm not sure how big the pot is, probably a ten gallon pot. Maybe six feet tall. I'm trying to find Beni Kawa online in the meantime.
