Cookie sheet vs. spice pull out

Which is most functional/usable....a multi-tiered spice pull out or a cookie sheet/muffin pan storage space? This is to occupy that 6 or so inch wide space in the cabinet configuration.

Use it for trays and cookie sheets. Muffin pans will probably take up too much space.

A big No on the spice pull-out idea. The worst. Better to have the space for cookie sheets, roasting pans, etc. though 6" is quite narrow even for that. I have a vertical storage cabinet like that though mine is 9", barely wide enough for cookie sheets and sheet pans, and a shallow roasting pan. I store my regular roasting pans and muffin pans elsewhere. You may want to re-examine your cabinet layout.

Agree with previous posters. I would prefer a cabinet for my cooking sheets/racks.

I have pull out spice cabinets flanking the stove in my current kitchen. I hate them and won't be putting any in the kitchen of our new build. Definitely go with the cookie sheet storage.

    Go with cookie sheet storage.

agree with above. lay your spices down in a drawer. it's the best.

A "spice pull out" drawer is the only thing I regret in my kitchen reno of 3 years ago......and I really regret them. I would much rather have used the space for baking trays. (I overlooked them in the plans my KD put together -- my fault -- but, also, I didn't know I'd dislike them as much as I do).

Cookie sheet storage like that is fab. Spices in drawers are the best, if you have room. If you don't, just putting them in a cupboard is better than a spice pullout. I have never seen any love for those here and have been unimpressed with the ones my friends have- they seem fiddly and awkward to me.

And this is what happens when you crowd source on the Internet... I love my spice drawer pullout. It pulls out all the way so I can see everything very easily. I have a large pantry and store all my baking sheets and muffin pans in there. I use spices daily, baking sheets are used weekly.

I would ask yourself what will you be reaching for more often?

My spice pull outs are in the upper cabinets and I love them. My MIL has them in a lower cabinet and I hate them there. They are just too low.

For a lower cabinet I'd for sure go with a cookie sheet pull out.

Spices are on top two shelves with slimmer bottle of oils and vinegars on the bottom. To view those, I simply bend over or squat. Not difficult.

No one's suggesting putting your spices in your pantry. Spices in a drawer right beneath your counter are IMO the easiest location for access and visibility, and I've had nearly every spice storage situation imaginable. I even had a spice cupboard in an old 1920s apartment which was amazing...but still not as good as the drawer. But I use a lot of spices when I cook, so having them laid out for me is the best. I have my sheet pans and muffin tins in a cupboard. I adjusted the shelf inside almost to the top and bought an organizing rack. Not as cool as a pull out, but better than stacked. I use sheet pans a lot while cooking, too, so I like to have them handy.

    @vinmarks -nice setup!

To the OP - I agree with the others that spice pullout not a good use of the space and not a good way to store spices. You have to bend or squat, and then peer to see the labels, and the bottles tip over easily in them.

My kitchen has both: two narrow lower cabinets that I use for baking sheets and large cutting boards on edge, and a spice pull-out in an upper cabinet. I like the lower ones, don't like the upper -- but it's not large enough, and it's next to the range, where the spices are exposed to heat.

I would like a spice rack in a lower cabinet even less since it would require bending merely to read the labels. I'd prefer shallow drawers.

I am not a fan of my spice rack pullouts on either side of the range. I did have one side converted so it could hold cooking oils and vinegars that I use in cooking. I am thinking of having the cabinet maker convert the other side to cookie sheet/cutting board storage.

I hate my spice pullout. Ugh, seriously, cross that one off your list. I curse every time I have to squat down on the floor to find a spice.

I have my spices in a drawer right next to the stove, wouldn't have it any other way -- all within easy reach at arm height. I would not like one of those long, narrow spice pull-out thingamajigs, though - not at all.

I would use a 6" for cookie sheets. But then I have and use a ton of seasonings that are often in larger containers- I have to have serious shelf space in my pantry for it all!

@beesneeds that's why I did refillable spice containers! I was super proud of that project because I'm not a martha stewart type at all but my spices were seriously driving me up the wall. Too many container sizes and shapes, too many different labels that were hard to read...I couldn't take it any more! So now I just refill my small containers and keep my big bulk spices out of the way. Took me almost 20 years to figure out what works but I finally got there. I'd love a bigger drawer for it, though - there are a few that don't fit. Maybe my next house! :)

I would see if I could get a real cabinet made 6" wider instead. Six inches wouldn't get me very far in spices OR sheets.

(Those tiny spice drawers y'all got are aDORable. :P)

Good place for spare oven racks I guess...
