Open concept has to all match. You have to have a strategy for any color changes for the rest. Which is entrust better for all trim to match through the home. It’s also unifying.

IMO just because that is in your house does not make it right Raye. As for the question I need to see the spaces and to understand why you are adding wainscoting at all. I am not a fan of wainscoting in bathrooms but I need to know a lot more about your style and the style of the waincoting . How high are your ceilings do you have crown molding for instance? BTW I see no wainscoting in any of your idea books .

Not all your wainscot has to match. You can certainly have variations from room to room. Traditionally, wainscotting or paneling in dining rooms has not matched that in other rooms. In dining rooms the wainscot (or paneling) traditionally is much taller than in other rooms. Just make sure the variations make sense. Good luck!

thank you. I appreciate all the input. It's open layout in the lower level. But the guest room and bathrooms of course are separate. I want to add interest to the walls, and wainscoting seems to make a huge impact. Our ceilings are 8 ft tall. But our great room and living room have very tall sloping ceilings. Great room is 2 stories high.

It's common in old houses for the molding to vary with the use of the room. Public rooms, such as parlors and dining rooms, would have the fanciest molding. Private rooms, such a bedrooms, would have simpler molding and utilitarian rooms, such as kitchens, would have plain molding. So there could easily be three of more different moldings in one house.

Does not have to match. It's up to you. To me when everything in the house looks the same it is so boring. Homes today lack character. Way too sterile.

I’m thinking of a picture frame rectangular wainscot on MBR accent bed wall.
Then would like a functional flat shaker wainscoting down the open double stairway to lower level.?
