I agree with KW. The style is great and the color is a wonderful "pop" but not to much. If you wanted, you could add a couple of small items in that color to tie it in more, if that is what is making you uncomfortable but I don't think it is needed. Your new home is lovely and it seems you have good taste and will be great making choices as you move forward making you home a great and beautiful place for you and your family.

Your credenza is absolutely perfect!!!! You couldn‘t have made a better choice!

I can't thank you all enough. I've been stewing over this a lot. I had the same feelings you did but was getting some feedback from people that the color wasn't their favorite. I felt a need for contrast in this room and this seemed perfect. I'm going o finish decorating my room and see how it all pulls together. Thanks again for your compliments and your ideas.

Trust your own instinct. My bet is those same folks who question the color will not even remember that when they see the finished & unpacked product! Some people just have little imagination 😁

KW, you have a lovely house with beautiful floors, but IMHO, I think the credenza is too yellow in tone against your floors. If the rest of your house wasn’t so nice, I wouldn’t comment at all but, why make do with something that’s not just right if you can send it back? If you don’t need the storage, what about a console table (sofa table) that has an iron base (color of your railing - but slimmer) with a glass, marble or other stone top? Trust your gut... you have good taste. If you are questioning the color and don’t love it, it will probably not grow on you over time.

mtpo. I appreciate your comments. Thank you. I have another very cool iron door tall glass hutch coming that will go next to fireplace. I have a lot of cool things to go inside of this glass hutch. This is why I did not opt for open shelves behind the couch (although I love that). also, I have two year old twins living with me so low open shelving is not great as much as I love it. I have a friend who is excellent with paint. she said she could sand this down and maybe whitewash it a bit to look like a bleached oak or a lighter oak. I hate doing that when I bought it new but I could not find a sofa cradenza this long 84" nor the style (I love this style). I'm going to have to think about this. Sometimes when you bring in all of your design elements, you can handle a piece like this (which is why I'm still hesitating). I have 30 days to decide. :-)

Bleaching or lightening that piece will make your room look like all the dreary gray bland rooms on Houzz. So if that's what you want, then return it and get something else. It looks very well made and the color adds some spice to the room!

I see quite a few pops of yellows..so not sure what your question is. Yellow and gray are complimentary colors.

I understand mtpo's perspective. If you were selecting this wood for kitchen cabinets with this flooring everyone would be screaming "NO!!!", but this is an accent piece and you need contrast to make a room interesting. You have the yellow flowers and gold in the wall art and floor lamp and even the view from your window has quite a bit of gold tones.

This piece ties all the other yellow, gold tones together. I feel like the other pieces are small, lightweight pieces and that you needed something with a larger presence to keep the small accents from being lost or feeling disjointed.

Color is like music - you need a variety of notes to make music. This is a beautiful chord.

Goes perfectly with the two art pieces in the corner, the gold lamp and the grey couch. Post pics when you’re done, your room is going to be beautiful!

I suppose there’s nothing we can say to convince you to lower the television? It’s too high for comfortable viewing. In such a beautiful room, IMO, it is off balance, and looks wrong.

A rug with different earth tones might bring these woods together even more.

The room is 'layered', the many wood tones all compliment each other for a fun modern mix!..

You are just moving in. Relax. Move the tv down to where seated people will be able to watch it comfortably. Bring in area rugs for color and texture. Natural wood comes in many colors: if everything was the same tone it would not be interesting.

Teamaltese. I agree. I hate the TV. It’s the dumb builders. They all think the tv should go above the fireplace and they put the outlets there. I tried to lower it but by code you have to put a tv 24” above a fireplace. Best Buy installed it. (Not cheap) and went a bit higher than the 24 when I told them 24. After the fact I had the idea of installing the tv to the left and lower with some cool built in shelves above. It’s a little late for that now without a lot of cost and expense and shaking up the whole household. Might have to wait.

I ahve no issue with the credenza but that TV has got to be moved or I see many visits to the chiropractor in your furture. Hang the TV on the wall where the stairs are or mount it on an arm that allows it to be lowered and forget having a fire and watching TV at the same time.It is not that expensive to move a TV connection.

I agree with Patricia. Love your credenza, but the TV just looks silly way up there, hope you move it.

Anna. Pottery Barn. I'm not a huge fan of pottery barn. Quality is poor. But this piece looks all solid wood. I've moved so much and everytime I move I spend tons of money on fine furniture. When I move nothing works in the new house. So, I'm not spending a fortune anymore.....and watch me live here forever...ha ha

Patricia......$500 is expensive to me. That is what Best Buy charged me to hang and install my tv.

It has seem to become the norm to hang TVs too high. My builder put our connections to high too so we hung the TV as low as we possibly could without exposing the wires. It was still too high but thankfully we’ve moved.
The mounts themselves are actually fairly easy to hang so maybe see if you can lower it yourself before thinking of moving the actual cable connections. That may cost a lot.

IMHO, the credenza looks too yellow in the photo. Reading between the lines, it seems that you have doubts which is why you are asking for other opinions. If I don’t love a new piece, I’m hesitant to spend money on it as I’ll be living with the furniture a long time.

Love the credenza- it will add interest to the finished space. A rug that picks up that shade will help too.

I hear you on the TV- it is what it is, at this point. Your home is going to be beautiful regardless and maybe someday down the road you'll make a change. Or not. Enjoy!

it's a beautiful piece, and in the photo I think it looks fine. but colors in photos are very different from colors in real life. does it bug you or do you like it?

your home is very cool! I agree with others that the TV is too high. if it doesn't bug you now, trust me, it could catch up with you eventually. neck pain sometimes takes a long time to set in, and it takes a really long time to fix.

Looks good to me! I have the reverse warm oak floors and grayish oak credenza. Agree about the little yellow accents that help bring all together. A large straw basket for the toddler toys may be helpful - find something in a similar tone to credenza. After kids are tucked in through all kid stuff in basket and enjoy your pretty adult room.

I agree with the others that theres plenty straight lines around...lovely with mustard art in corner [to me better than clear yellow accessories, my little comment]

I prefer my TV lower, but I had mine hung just below the ceiling after I rescued a dog who had aggression issues toward other dogs, including those on TV. Rocky was 120 lb Rottweiler/Grayhound mix and broke 2 TV's the first weekend I had him at my home.

Having the TVs so high wasn't ideal, but far less expensive than replacing TVs. We survived without any visits to the chiropractor.

On the t.v., the fireplace is modern so much lower than you are use to. That makes the tv look even higher. It gets really hot for about 24" up so could damage sound bar and television. I don't care about building codes (did I say that)......I want to hang the tv where it looks good, just worried about damaging the t.v. The wall is travertine and it gets very hot to the touch. However, the tv is not touching the actual wall. Any experts out there......:-)

ilovemod......You are so right. photos can be different. The furniture store didn't have a piece on the floor. They only had a catologue and it looked a little yellow but I hoped in person it would be okay. It was actually worse..ha ha... This photo is pretty accurate. It's pretty yellow.

I have a Pottery Barn coffee table going on 14 years now, solid wood, no complaints. I think many companies have “good” pieces and crap pieces, thankfully we both seem have have good ones.

if you feel the photo is accurate, then I honestly like how the credenza looks! also, moving means a lot of jarring new changes. live with it for a while, you might begin to notice it less.

let's say that you miss the return window. try it in a different room, or you could sell it. don't try to stain it -- unless it's a really valuable piece, the cost of staining it correctly is not worth it.

I think the credenza makes the floor and the sofa look drab. Also, the TV seems unnecessarily high. The fireplace is low so this is one time a TV over the fireplace wouldn't be too high if placed better. Sorry.

I think it’s the only piece in that room with its particular color stain and it’s sort of shouting for attention. I like the piece in your room but I’d want to see a couple other hard case pieces in a similar color stain. Maybe a live edge cocktail table and them a small end table for one of your chairs...or the same color wood for framed art.

Lulu. I agree. Moving around sucks. That couch use to be on a very light maple floor. I will switch it out eventually by my daughter and two year old twins moved in with me and the couch is taking a beating. :-).

That credenza is so sleek... I think it looks great in your room :). Could you share what flooring you have? We are shopping for new floors, and I'm loving that color!

I think the couch color is perfectly fine. this room has lots of bright natural light and white elements, nothing about it seems drab to me!

cara, I don't know what the color is. We bought the house and it was already in. It is an engineered wood and is a warm brown with a slight gray wash.
