The best deterrent for chipmunks is a cat .

I've bought plantskydd 100% dried blood sprinkles which claim to repel "deer, rabbits, elk, moose, hares, voles, squirrels, chipmunks and other herbivores". It's too soon to say for sure if it'll live up to its claim. As I've lost a few melons with a single specimen left on the vine, I'm hoping to get to taste it when it ripens.

Rat traps work great. Use a peanut for bait.

someone mentioned if the fencing on top came out a few inches wouldn't allow them to climb.

If you can get a fencing that curls over on the top, that deters the climbers. Not sure about squirrels . . .

I had squirrels raiding my bush beans and tomatoes. I tried a drop of Lavender Oil at each corner of my small veggie bed. I watched squirrels come along and stop in their tracks, shake their heads and go back the way they came. I reapplied the drops after each rain. After a couple of weeks, the squirrels seemed to stay away and I was able to slack-off with the drops. Later when "new" squirrels appeared to show an interest, I had to repeat the process.

If I continue the hardware mesh and at the top of the black fence bend it outward would chipmunks still be able to climb in?
