Looking for unique door hardware

I would like to replace the hardware throughout our home with flat black hardware. On three hall closet doors, there are currently unique doorknobs that have a functioning knob on the outside. On the inside, however, there is not a traditional knob. It is a vertical - I'm not sure what to call it - vertical handle (?) that can be twisted to release the door mechanism allowing the door to be opened from the inside. I love the uniqueness of the door knobs and would like to have that same type on those doors. My problem is that I can't find a source that sells them. Anyone know or somewhere that I may find something like that? The other option would be to spray paint the existing ones.

I know what you mean. They are sort of like deadbolt knobs, right? I think it is a "thumbturn".

Do you have mortise style hardware or modern? That will make a big difference. (I'm thinking mortise because that type of door knob thingy is pretty retro!)

It's a modern doorknob. The house was built in 1952. When I get home, I'll try and take a picture and post it.

It looks like the knob a deadbolt would be locked with, except rather than unlocking a deadbolt, it releases the latchbolt if your on the interior side of the door.

Evidently, it is referred to as a closet spindle. It stipulates that they are used on a door, such as a closet, where no interior knob would be needed. The one on our doors are simply a different style than the one pictured.
