I wouldn't have a black garage door since it's up front and will pull too much focus. It will just be a big black wall. I'm somewhat on the fence about the squares on the corners. Painting them the same color as the siding would look less busy...so maybe yes.

Paint the faux quoins the same as the body. Do not paint the garage door or the gable vents black

A garage door, in an already gargae forward home , should not be the star unless it is a very special garage door IMO.

As a garage door is not an exciting thing I don't think you want to draw attention to it in black - neutral and toning with the garage is more pleasing to the eye than the starck black

I’m voting for black door and painting only the louvres In the vents black. Leave the trim as is.

Or, paint all the trim black.

But, I think my favorite look would be removing the applied “ribbon” trim and adding a black pergola.

What do you want people to see first on your house? Highlight that, If it's the garage door, which I doubt, then paint it black. I think what is not quite right about the look of the house is that it is not balanced and your instinct is to make the garage door more prominent by painting it black.

Plus, there is a lot going on with the contrasting trim. Can you post picture from father back?

HI, I neutralized your house, taking away the contrasting trim on the stucco. IMO, this should be your new blank slate and then you would work on making the porch and other trim pop. The textures created by the differing trims on the stucco make them stand out. I don't think they should be painted a contrasting color. Maybe not to your taste, but it's an idea.

Definitely paint quoins same as body of house. Investing in upgrading your landscaping would be good step forward. Legacy tree on left looks like it is in trouble. Might need an arborist to look at it and assess it and make recommendations. The other side looks like an overgrown crepe myrtle. I would severely trim that back after fall. Then keep it under control. I know you didn’t ask about landscaping but you have a pretty house and it deserves a better first impression.

I don’t think a black garage door is a good idea. I agree with Flo that your trees are a problem. They cover the whole front facade, which makes the garage even MORE prominent. Painting all the trim to be the color of the house gives a nice, neutral look. Or just leave it alone.

I wouldnt be painting the garage door or vents black. I agree, it would look like a big black hole. I like the squares on the corners the lighter color, but, they would look ok painted the body of the house too. I think a better idea than painting is to clean up the landscaping a bit. It looks a bit over grown, and busy.

I know its been a year but what did you end up doing? i have a similar style house and i am looking for ideas since i may have to get a new garage door sooner than later
