Thanks. I had seen that first but thought the slatwall offered more flexibility. But...I was brainstorming with a friend and I think I need to sit down and layout where things will go. Maybe this system would work???

@BeverlyFLADeziner thanks again for your suggestion. I had a garage organizer company out this past weekend. (I haD left a message and after a few days, I hadn’t heard back; so that’s why I had posted on Houzz). To my surprise, they are recommending a track system vs. slatwall. Said it’s about 1/2 the price and would do what I needed. They also suggested shelves vs. full-one cabinets. I’m not sure if I’m going to hire them but just an FYI in terms of garage design. I like that double-row of the Rubbermaid track. Guess I have more homework for this WE, to optimize my layout/design. Thanks for your help.

We recently built a garage and looked at the wall storage options just as you have--I was partial to the Rubbermaid system as well but my husband ended up installing Ikea kitchen cabinets with drawers and that has worked well. We also use a heavy duty shelf to hold things like car detailing supplies, extra animal food, pressure washer, etc. Bikes are mounted on the remaining wall.

Definitely planning out what will go where is key. Good luck! It's such a nice feeling to open the garage door and have an organized space.

@abscot - chiming in with a response since you’re in planning stage. Have lived here almost 28 years so modifications have been made as necessary/desired.

I use basic slatwall from Menards. Nothing heavy hangs upon it but provides useful off-the-floor organization which can be seasonally arranged. Compressor and shop vac are garage essentials. The shelving unit here is on casters - behind is a ”sleeve” against the wall to hold storm door inserts.

Heavy storage shelving was site-built and a roll down shade hides the content.

Good task lighting - these are 8’ LED.

Floor is Racedeck vinyl tile.

A separate cabinet stores detailing supplies and any chemicals.

One of the nicest new features is the shaft-drive opener. Quiet and frees center space. Has a deadbolt lock into the track for security and a battery should power fail.

We reside in upper midwest so the garage has a heater, natural gas. Have hot/cold soft water and city water connections. Two, 20 amp electrical circuits Hope these provide ideas. Good luck

Thanks fnmroberts! How did you decide on that floor? Epoxy is widely talked about - how does your tile compare to that?

@abascot - Epoxy is widely used. Application is critical and to improperly prepared concrete will not bond. I’ve had the Race Deck for years without issue. It offers an additional benefit that it drains itself though I do clear winter meltwater throughout the season.

@fnmroberts - we have a concrete floor which is damaged so epoxy may not be best for us. Did you install the Race Deck directly on top of concrete or do you need to line it with anything? Thanks!

Yes. Basically align one side and the front to install. Use a chop saw to trim the back and other side as necessary. Need

to allow for expansion, maybe a half-inch all around.
