Help with cabinet hinges

Hellllp! Can anyone tell me what type of cabinet hinges these are? My husband refuses to help me and I’m determined to figure it out myself! Are these variable or full?

We are replacing them with matte black next Monday and I need to purchase ASAP in order for them to arrive in time for our handyman.

Thank you!

I honestly don't think you have time to order new hinges between now and Monday. I'm in the middle of a kitchen renovation myself, and many things are delayed in terms of stock and shipping times due to pandemic force reduction effects. I'd reschedule the handyman and take my time with this one. Hinges can be painted and regularly are. You might consider that approach. Take care if you remove the hinges to label the precise locations for each, because they may not be interchangeable. You can scuff up the current finish, spray a primer, and then spray your matte black, 2 coats of the black. It could be a challenge to get new hinges with the precise same hole pattern, so beware. If you are looking to modernize your kitchen, there are so many other ways to do that than switching out hinges. Take a look at the kitchen as a whole and address other areas of concern. You might even want to save your money for a full remodel on down the road where you could get hidden hinges with soft close which is the current standard in kitchen cabinetry. Having all-drawer bases to the greatest extent possible is also now considered standard.

Thanks for the feedback. The house was built in 1984...they’re not 60 years old. I’m not interested in replacing the doors.

And yes, if they’re the hinges I think they might be, they can be shipped any arrive by Friday in matte black.

Thanks but not really answers to my questions whatsoever.

Face mount 3/8" inset is what you need. (I believe.). Order a pair to make sure they fit properly & that the door lines up properly with the opening. And, yes, you can get them in black.

The hinges that you have are not the correct ones for that door. You have a partial wrap overlay hinge which is the wrong hinge.

That said, the hinge side of your doors may need to be re-milled to get the 3/8" inset hinge to seat properly.

Don't waste your time trying to paint the hinges you have. They are the wrong style hinge. And, although hinges are often painted, they almost always look like crap after only a couple of weeks because the paint ends up looking globby around the barrel of the hinge. Paint over close tolerance moving parts just doesn't work well.

Put the handyman app't on hold until you can get the correct hinges. Depending on where you live, you might, might be able to find them locally but don't count on it. You will probably have to order them.

Once you determine the correct hinge, check eBay for a match & price comparison if you need more than a few pairs.

Oh, I see you have found a possible source with quick shipping so never mind my suggestion about postponing handyperson.

I don't have any answers for you either, but I have to say I'm pretty curious....why does your husband refuse to help you?

3/8” inset were still done to the early 80’s in some areas that site build cabinets, notably TX. That’s long after other areas abandoned both site built and 3/8“ inset. They have no real adjustability here, so the doors need to have the lip rerabbited in order to fit and close properly. That requires a strip and refinish with a proper commercial cabinet coating. This is not a small handyman type job.

Standard 1/2” overlay hinges will not work here. At all.

Here is the only game in town to convert to hidden hinges. Which requires a strip and refinish. https://www.rockler.com/salice-snap-close-110-3-8-rabbeted-door-hinges-face-frame

Here’s the standard 3/8” inset, but only ORB is available. https://www.rockler.com/3-8quot-inset-hinges

Echoing what Cook's Kitchen said, my house in OK, built around 1979-1980 had site built kitchen w/ 3/8" partial inset doors.

The cabinets in this house in Wisconsin were factory built cabinets and also have 3/8" partial inset cabinet doors and drawers. House in WI is approx the same age as the Ok house.

Didn't check prices, only style--but YES, it definitely pays to shop around for best price!

Looking at the pictures again--it doesn't look like the doors and drawer fronts are original to the cabinets. Because it looks like they are too large to inset into the face frames. ??? (Picture #2) Which may explain why they currently have overlay hinges on them.???

What Silverlined said - if color is the main objection then paint them.

I couldn't get through the above answers. NOT 3/8 inset hinges.

So all very conflicting feedback, so I’m just gonna close out the thread now. Thanks for your responses though.

I think Creative Design is right and that these are overlay doors and NOT 3/8" inset. I was wrong about that. It was bothering me all along that the drawer fronts could never have inset into the frame. That was what was throwing me off & making me think perhaps the doors weren't original to the cabinets.

Perhaps this hinge: Amerock AME-BPR763026----30 DEGREE REVERSE BEVEL VARIABLE OVERLAY

Which still isn't quite right but may work. There could be, probably is yet another hinge that is exactly right but we have not found it.

Those are true mitered doors. That is not an applied molding.

As far as speculating about the doors being warped, there is no way we can know that for certain. The current hinging is wrong. With an overlay door it doesn't matter if the face frame isn't exactly square.

Thank you for all the responses. Again, not interested in replacing any cabinet doors but appreciate the diagram and will work with my handyman directly.
