seeking advice about kitchen layout

Hi everyone. I’m hoping to get some advice about this 26 foot long kitchen layout. It will be built from scratch but the space allocated for the kitchen is not changing. . The window on the oven side is southern exposure. I don’t love that the hood is off-centered. I also wonder if the fridge and freezer should swap locations. I have a large family cook and bake a lot. This is a kosher kitchen. I kindly request that you don’t comment just to tear about the kitchen. Seeking legitimate advise as far as function , flow, etc. The kitchen has two door ways - one to the living room (past the fridge) and one to the wet bar/dining room. Did I leave out any important info? Thanks !

Too many sinks, even Kosher considered. Take the sink off the island., or reduce by a lot. Your range to island clearance is too tight. Adjust the pantry size.

Right. 4 sinks. Do you have scenarios where they're necessary? The island sink can go. And the butlers pantry is a choke point. I don't see a strong value in terms of use. More pantry would be more useful to me.

You'd gain valuable prep/work space by moving the range and sink down 12" to the left. Even though it takes the sink out of center on the window and further moves the hood out of center. . The space to the left of the range is less useful even if you have wall ovens. Instead of a gas range/top you can choose an induction cooktop with oven stack down to the left. The prep sink on that wall can be reduced to 21-24". Gives you more counter. and is more than big enough Better configuration and flow of the primary work zone between the frig and sink. On swapping the frig and freezer, you can make both right hinge to get easier access if both are 36 or 30" single door. That keeps the frig in the better spot.

Dan. Thank you. I have a baking business so an island sink is helpful. The sink in butler is just for guests to use - not for washing dishes. I need that space as a way in and out of the dining room- there’s a beam that can’t move. That’s a pretty large pantry so I’m ok with that size.

If you do not wear comfortable shoes, you will experience how sound that advice is.

Whatever you want to call it. We’re 8 people in the kitchen so we prob will enjoy the space.

As mentioned above, the aisle between the island and range wall looks tight. With two sinks and a range, the likelihood of a person standing in there will be high. Not a big deal if it's just you, but with such a large space, can you look for a way to widen the aisle?

Hu How much space do you suggest how many inches

I'll defer to the kitchen experts on how many inches, but I found 39" in my last kitchen to be too narrow. It was a long, pretty kitchen with lots of nice features and an oversized island, but that narrow aisle was infuriating on a regular basis. Disclaimer: I am known to be ill-tempered from time to time.

I like my 42" aisles. They are generous for 2 people our size. But 8 people? Assuming at least 3 of those are helping cook, I'd consider 48". It looks like you have 164", so there should be space (assuming my math is right... 25"+48"+42" for counter+aisle+island, still leaves 49" between the island and the butler's pantry.)

I think you're right to consider swapping the fridge and refrigerator. But think through where you will place things when taking them out. Is the island close enough to use that as your unloading point? It looks far (which is good for traffic.. but rough for transfer of food).

Guest should wash their hands in a powder room. The clearances are a BIG problem. It WILL make you ill tempered.

If you think you have it all figured out as is..............? Then you know what to do. Don't ask.

"I kindly request that you don’t comment just to tear about the kitchen. Seeking legitimate advise as far as function , flow, etc"

    That's a conflicting statement , right there, is it not : ) ?

Jan I appreciate your feedback but I find you’re being quite abrasive. Typically critique is ignored when not paired with anything positive.

Yes, but do you notice almost everyone has said too many sinks and too tight for clearances??? Especially for nine people in the kitchen? That is the "function and ease and layout issue.

Jan- in her prior thread the OP wasn't thrilled about comments that weren't tailored to her specifications either.

And the plans for this thread are edited so Houzzers won't see and comment on the fact that the island has seating for 4 right next to an in-kitchen table with 8 chairs right next to a dining room that seats 16.

Because dontcha you know, that Houzz is a place in which the posters get to control the respondents comments, or did I miss the payment agreement in here somewhere?

    (sarcasm font on)

Apparently even the people whom she pays for advice aren't enough so strangers input is solicited but the helpful strangers are nipped at in multiple threads.

    One really has to wonder.

As Sophie might have said, Run, Forrest, run.

    To the OP-

A sense of humor is extremely helpful, as is gratitude for helpful people (especially total strangers) with experience and expertise and other viewpoints whose advice you solicited.

And more than a soupcon of humility.

All are necessary for social media like this.

Oh sorry- that was unsolicited advice, just couldn't help myself.

. I gladly accept all comments- but some people seem to just see the negative which isn’t typically received well by anyone.

so for whatever it is worth we have a similar space layout and similar scale. The cooktop is in the island with a prep sink on one end. I prep between that sink and the cooktop and have a trash can right underneath so I can just scrape everything in there. the "real" sink is on the outside wall with a nice window. the fridge on one wing wall (by sink) and the double oven on the other. It has worked really well - i have several areas appropriate for prepping and often have multiple cooks in the kitchen at once. my baking stuff is on one end and my cooking stuff on the other. large drawers for pots and pans on the island. second trash by the main sink for cleanup. Big deal - enough space between the island and your outside wall so people can pass each other. I have 52" clearance.

NOTE: that 52" aisle width allows for a person washing dishes at the sink, another working the cooktop and someone passing between with only a little bit of friendly. We have four good sized prep spaces that are entirely separate.

Eight people??!?!? Forget the shoes, you can just ask someone to pass you what you need.

With 8 people using the kitchen your ABSOLUTE MINIMUM between aisles should be 48”.

Reduce the depth of the island to 41" and add that space to the work aisle. You need 24" cabinets, 1" front overhang, 15" seating overhang, and whatever the thickness of the back cover panel. I'd put cabinets on the end facing the fridge/freezer, with seating to the left, so there's less conflict with the corner of the butler's pantry. Keep fridge as is.

For a kosher kitchen, especially a busy one with multiple cooks, this seems well thought out, and I assume it's in a neighborhood where potential buyers will be looking for a kosher kitchen. Also assuming you've planned for separate storage of dishes and pans. I'd make the vent hood 6" wider than the cooktop, and use all drawer bases. I'd probably reduce the width of the island (pareve?) sink to 24", but if you feel you need the wider sink--you know your needs better than I.

Thank u mama ! Btw there’s an oven underneath the stovetop .

Mama. I was actually going to use the left side for pareve. I do so much baking that i figured a nice area with a Window would be a good spot. That double oven will primarily be for my Thursday and Friday baking. I imagine it’s easier to plug in my baking appliances To a wall than on an island. Will even use a dishwasher there for the pareve stuff. Island will be for dairy. We are not a huge dairy family and primarily use paper for that. I like your idea abt tweaking the island. Will consider your 3/4 seating arrangement! I still want to center the stove/hood and shift the meat sink over to the right. The current windows in the plan are 6.5 feet and seem like that can be made smaller without cutting out much sunlight. I have to figure out where to store stuff !! Thank u so much for the helpful feedback. Figured there had to be something positive abt this design!!.

    Mama -
Does the off centered hood bother u at all? Was thinking of a cool steel statement hood
