Received Wrong Window Color - Marvin

Hi All,

Wondering what the typical practice is when you receive your windows in the wrong color? I ordered a bunch of replacement windows (30) and 5 of them arrived with a white interior sashes. We had wanted all of them to be fully black on the outside, and black sashes on the inside. I've uploaded examples of the correct replacements in one room and the incorrect ones in the other.

Our Marvin dealer is offering to paint them at his shop. But I've found him to be less tha

n trustworthy. Seems to me given that I spent as much as a Mercedes Benz on windows, I should be able to get a new factory painted batch from Marvin.

Thoughts or experiences?

Should Be Black Sashes

Should Look like these

He may be able to paint them, but, then you wouldnt have the long lasting factory finish, and the black may not be exact either. Get them replaced, and have what you are paying for. Dont take less than what you asked for and pay for. I really love your black windows. I am wondering why he even put the ones in, that were done wrong. He should have stopped right there and sent them back.

The other problem is to paint them correctly they need to be removed and hardware and weather stripping taken off . Then sanded, then at least 2 coats of paint with proper cure time. What would they do with the openings in the meantime? If it is not satisfactory then what ?

Stick to your guns and make Marvin furnish new sash. Or if the dealer fouled up the order he eats them but you get new sash, nothing less.

Yikes! I see that the white ones are installed. How did that happen? Who is responsible?

Installation usually translates as" product accepted”..

    Thanks everyone.

@JudyG Designs unfortunately the installers put them in before I got there to see it.

@toddinmn Great points. Is that still true if the frames are ok? We had ordered white interior frames, so technically they just need to remove the sashes and paint them? But again, I don't see how the factory look will match this.

Has anyone experienced this issue and found that Marvin would just resend new windows? I imagine they would and the dealer is just trying to avoid the hassle and maybe expense (if he made the mistake).

No, that can mean they f‘d up and put in the wrong one. This is not like you went to car dealer and drove off in the car you special ordered to be black even though it was white. If product installed means product accepted I would just promise people Marvin SDL’s in triple pane and throw in some Jeld-Wens off the shelf from Menards. Since it is the sashes only it made sense to install the windows regardless.

I would have installed them either way since the frames are the right color, changing out the sashes will take 5 min. It comes down to you on what your willing to accept, if you your willing to accept netherworld method I would make clear they have 1 shot at this and you are the judge and executioner on the final say. Get it in writing and then know your gonna be. Little anal about it.

I have had this happen before as most contractors have, if it was me. I would bite the bullet.

Any time I've had an issue with Marvin, things have always been rectified at the factory level. Meaning no field repairs.

You paid for a new window. You should get that new window. Not a field modified window.

Have them send new ones, your installer will swap the sashes out and send the incorrect sashes back.

That is why many people pay Marvin prices. You're not just paying for what is supposedly a superior product, you're also paying for them to make headaches go away versus you having to do it on your own.

We had a sliding door that came in with the slider opening the wrong direction. The installer offered us a large discount to keep it, as they'd already removed our door when issue was discovered. We said no, as it was not going to work well with the opening in the corner. The door was installed (the old door had been compromised in removal), but we agreed to leave it in the same condition (we left all the stickers on, kept the dogs away, etc.), and he reordered the correct door and sold the incorrect door to recoup some of the cost; I don't know if he ended up with a profit or loss on the project, but he did find a buyer for the door.

If the installers accepted and installed the wrong windows, they need to fix the issue at their cost, in my opinion.

As long as black was specifically mentioned in your contract.

Thanks all for the feedback. So the next batch of windows arrived and they are casements. I'm guessing as the two numbers are the same (3.1 over 3.1) I didn't get the STC I ordered.

    Hi @ashishkb -

This is such a frustrating post to read - I'm so sorry!! Was Marvin able to resoIve it for you? I'm about to order the same windows (with black interior) and am now going to be worried about this! ha

This is a bit off-topic but I have been hunting madly for images of the Elevate double-hungs with black interior - yours are so lovely! I just found out that the track that the bottom sash will glide on cannot be black which I was worried about, but I can't even tell in your photo! Would you mind sharing if you find this to be an issue? I think one of the tricks is the white frame on your window - it might keep it from looking too high contrast. I want to update mine to this same look!

I would be so appreciative of any thoughts you could share on this issue! And I REALLY hope Marvin resolved this properly for you. Thanks!!
