Properly mixed and applied quality grout will be consistent in color and will not fall out and those are both quality products. Your tile pro should be suppling the materials, at the very least the setting and finishing materials. Which does he typically purchase and work with? In my opinion this may be a red flag. He should be mixing grout samples and showing you color boards with your tile to show the difference in colors

The Mapai Flexcolor CQ is my choice and the color holds extremely true. Antimicrobial and pre-sealed. It is my "go to" grout. Only warning is that it needs to cure 7-10 days before exposure to water...

Millworkman, he has worked with both types and just told us to choose based on color selection we like best. We like Tec Silverado or Mapei Warm Gray or Frost.

Those are the grout colors we are choosing between too. What did you decide?

We used TEC Silverado grout with a gray porcelain tile (Bedrosians Allora Hex). We had bad efflorescence issues with this grout, which continues to get worse 13 days later. We are awaiting review and suggestions from the TEC representative. They do recommend using Grout Additive instead of water to reduce efflorescence (our tile installer used water).

That’s is not efflorescence. I don’t think your tile guy even knows how to spell the word, much less what it is. That is improper mixing of the grout, over washing, and a lack of attention to cleaning grout haze.

We used Tec Silverado because it blended perfectly with our tile selection.

No issues with anything you have described. We used a very popular tiler and I don’t think he would use a product that would give his customers problems.

Mapei is the way to go!

Celadon, do you have any suggestions on what we should do regarding our grout? If it’s bad mixing, does that mean it needs to be redone?

@User Our Mapei Gray Frost grout turns black when wet. Just knowing that, is it possible the tiler didn't mix it correctly? Maybe added two much water? I appreciate any info you can offer. Thank you!

Hi Brianne, has the colorant held up on your grout? We put the exact same tile (smaller version) and same grout color in our master shower and the same thing happened. I’m so frustrated. 😩

It has been 1.5 years and the colorant has held up very well. We are not careful, my 2 young boys pee on the floor and track dirt and have spilled paint on the floor, and our housecleaner cleans this bathroom every other week. No signs of wear! The Silverado colorant was very light. I did a small se too and realized it didn't look great a wound show dirt. I chose "Mist" which is a medium warm gray. Slate was darker with more of a blue undertone. I'm very happy with Mist.
