tricky addition project, looking for ideas please!

Here’s a rendering of a project we are working on. We are a little stuck on the front entryway. The existing home is on the right and the addition is on the left with a foyer connecting the two. Main living space is upstairs. What are your thoughts on the concrete stairs leading up to entry? Please share thoughts and ideas!

Modern looking house and those concrete steps certainly appear modern to me. I think they fit nicely.

Is there any way to face those concrete steps with stone to match the wall to the right?

I don’t like the stone so keep the concrete and I would do horizontal siding instead of the stone or at the very least a much darker stone. Have you thought about a mix like this

The concrete entrance looks fine to me. Are you having a driveway on the right also in front of all those windows (and another door to confuse visitors)? I would darken the stone also.

The right is the existing with paint and new windows...the door and stone is already there. The rendering shows a little patio in front; it’s hard to describe driveway it’s rather large open area set back from road behind trees

Why don't you post a picture of your properties instead of a rendering?

That would be a good idea too.

The stairs are attractive. Are they practical? Do you live in an area that gets ice?

Have you considered having the foyer closer to the front of the house? Again, I think it looks great, but I’d be worried about weather. I live in New England. Worrying about weather is our job.

I would stain and seal the concrete...using a color that blends better with the stone...

Here is a rendering of property as is...

The main entry is on that left side and we are hoping to bring it to the front of the house.

We are in Iowa...so yes I am very worried about weather!

Why do we still see renderings and not actual pics?

I guess I’m not too sure why it matters, but it was just easier. I’ll post another

This is what you see when you pull up driveway.

The shadow you see is a detached garagw

I love modern houses, but, for some reason, I find the current façade much more pleasing. Maybe it’s the landscape and that great tree? Just looks warmer overall.

I think you've got an awesome plan there! Is there anyway to save that gorgeous small landscape tree in front there? That would bring just the right softness you'll need to the new design and would be a great asset as part of your new entrance patio area. Stain the concrete to soften it.

Beautiful property. You could always install heated steps if that was an issue, but I could see you using the door that is front right for easier access to the house in winter.
