OldDutch: Some things I read indicate that it can be difficult to produce onion seed that meets minimum germination standards required by the government for seed offered for sale to the public. I wonder if a place like Dixondale can use it and just plant extra to compensate for the low germination rate. This is just a wild supposition...I have no idea how or where or when DF acquires their seed.

It is probably grown specifically for them.

Interestingly Dixondale is not offering Patterson plants which is what everybody else is using to replace Copra seed and IIRC they did offer Patterson last year. It is quite possible that the Copra seed is being raised specifically for Dixondale. It would be pretty hard to shut out on a customer that size. I see that with some other quality hybrids such as Burgundy broccoli, which I grew last year and found really impressive and now cannot get seed for next year; it looks like only plants - seed sources are obviously being restricted.

I ordered a dozen bunches of Copra from Dixondale yesterday, along with some Candy. Last year's Copras stored in a refrigerator are just now sprouting, 14 months after harvest. Been buying all of my onion needs from Dixondale for 13 years with great results.

I get my DD bunches locally at a mom and pop gardening store in Kansas City. They did not offer Copra last year. Crossing my fingers that they have it next year. This year I grew my usual Candy, Red Candy, and Superstar. I'm down to just a few Candy and Red Candy left.

I ordered and planted Copra from Dixondale last year. They are in storage now.
