Overgrown front lawn garden

Hi, followup to the post I just did on my back flower garden, here's the very overgrown front lawn/garden of the house we just moved into. I'm looking for help identifying some of these plants and figuring out what should stay or be replaced, plus ANY tips at all, I'm very new at this. We're in New England. Thank you so much!!

    I was mostly looking at the larger leaved plants in the foreground, which almost look alternate and green stemmed, but if those are smooth hydrangea behind them, then they are probably all hydrangea. There is another species in front of the lower hydrangea, could be spent Phlox or Tradescantia, or whatever, the photo is too blurry to tell.
