I think the only thing that makes it look busy is all your decor, both on the mantel and on the side. Also, it could just be the angle, but is the fireplace off center of the wall? If it is, I'd probably build a built-in on one side so that it looks intentional, and not like a mistake.

The fireplace is off center. I believe it was due to TV's being so big at the time of the build they left the right side for the TV. So I should remove the Arch? What else. Color?

Hi Catherine, I would suggest to remove the arch and cabinet underneath that. There's so many patterns to look at which makes it look busy. Suggest to build a built in cabinet on the right and left side and maybe some open shelves above it with minimal decor.

Hi, I agree with others and start with removing the arch. In this case - less is best. You don’t need to have a custom cabinet built. If you really need the storage, just get something less “busy” for that corner. If storage is not needed then put a nice, tall plant in that corner. A plant will help disguise the asymmetry of that wall.

I agree. Remove the arch mirror and cabinet. Maybe you can exchange it with another cabinet in your home that doesn't have so much detail and pattern. Or just put a floor lamp on that end of your sofa.

These are all great ideas. My daughter told me the other day it was too busy. lol I'm going to take the Arch down, remove the cabinet and add more pictures.

It's fine without anything there. If you can't remove the wires, you can put a large pot and plant in the corner to cover it.

I would paint the entire wall white . That way the fireplace will not look so misplaced being off center . Then you can figure out what you actually need on those walls ..if you need bookshelves ( only if you can fill it with books or need a little bar area ..which could be incorporated inside the book shelf ..on the right .. Otherwise hang paintings or blocks of large photographs ..
I also would move the sofa and use it as a divider of the room and facing the fireplace . Put it against the wall on the left where the large chair is and put the large chair on the right , larger side , next to the fireplace with a lamp ...you have to play with the furniture a little ...move them around until you feel comfortable . A good rule of thumb is to sit in front of a fireplace and making it your conversation area and not obstructing a large window .
Of course it would help seeing the rest of your living area ...

It's a nice enough looking fireplace. The horizontal boarding you added is actually quite nice. Would you consider extending it on either side and creating recesses and built-in cabinetry/shelving? I think that would be more impactful. You are on a good tract for making it a real design piece. Good luck!

How wide is the room? How wide is the sectional? I‘m wondering if the sectional could be turned 90° so that it’s facing the fireplace. Obviously the recliner and the sofa table that’s in front of the doors would have to move, too (the sofa table could go behind the sofa.)

Consider putting TV on wall where the sofa is now, put sofa in front of window sonit faces the Tv. I don’t know how one could watch TV looking to your right and up with it’s current pace over the fireplace.
Is you sofa extension a chaise, or a hassock theat can be moved?

The room is 11ft wide. The sofa extension is a chaise I would have to order another cushion for it if I can find one. I never use the door wall, I had another one added to the dining area. I'll add more pictures.
