The light blue chair still looks awkward. I would try it in the corner, where the two windows meet. and plants are. I would add the light blue chair there with a little glass table.

Was this arrangement tried? Sofa where the light blue chair is now, near radiator facing fireplace, Dark blue chairs stay where they are and light blue chair on the other side on corner of area rug.

I am going to have to agree the geo chair is out of sorts there, I love the idea still of a reading nook J R. Not sure which corner, you'll have to play with that.

As for what doods said either legs all on the carpet and front on and back off, not somewhere in between, and it's the geo chair that is the odd one out here still. But I am actually really liking this since your windows and fireplace aren't square to each other.

I moved the bench and shifted the chairs down so the geo chair wasn’t so straight. Now the 3 chairs are on an angle and form a little semi-circle. Is it too circular???

If I move the geo chair to where the plants are, I worry about the chair being behind a chair and seeming even odder.

the odd chair is trying really hard to join this party but the others really don't have room for him.

I think if you found a new spot for him, and got the other accessories, it might look more cohesive.

While I understand this layout, because my room is not symmetrical, the fireplace is completely blocked by putting those two chairs across from the sofa if it’s back on that wall

New to the discussion. It has been so interesting watching your process. Perhaps it is just the angle of the pictures but in the last arrangements your coffee table looks too far away to be of any use to those seated on either the sofa or the chairs. I realize this is a work in progress so please forgive me if I spoke too soon. You are doing a great job!

Another option: sofa against wall like you had above with tables on each side that you liked, twins on each side of the sofa (squared up to the sofa but at each end of the coffee table) and the single chair angled to the left or right of the fireplace. I would also try the cabinet to the right of the fireplace where you now have the bench...which means the art has to move but that could be the next step. Maybe you could take a picture with this arrangement. Thanks.

I really agree with you about the metal pieces being softer looking with this arrangement, that is what always bothered me too, with the couch on the other wall, it made the metal pieces way too prominent. I like this arrangement way better, and the geo chair looks like it belongs there. Good for you for trying so many arrangements and posting pictures of each, it was interesting! Hope you post pics when you get your plant stands and basket.

What should go on the square table between the twin chairs?

Chair - move the small table that is next to couch as it lost there and will be nicer In this little corner and will also comp the bar. Add a small brass floor lamp which is better visually and for reading and metal will comp bar hardware

Then add a similar and a bit taller floor lamp next to couch

In regards to table, do you have an outlet? If so, I’d chose a low, bulky and earthy lamp to compliment table And create warmth.

If no outlet, add something sculptural and again earthy and warm

Don’t forget great cushions

Yeah, you finally got the geo chair in the corner...remember I suggested a little reading nook there back in the beginning...? Again, move the small table next to the sofa there by the geo chair. Get a floor lamp and see if you can bring in a pouf or soft ottoman. I would move the big square between the twin ombre chairs next to the sofa and put a lamp there, and I'm wondering if you get a square pouf for the geo chair in the right color/fabric could you get two and put one between the ombre chairs with a tray on it for use like a table? LOVE this arrangement you ended up with - just LOVE it. Need a floor lamp, some pillows and maybe as suggested some poufs, will look for you.

I think the bar at that end of the room is better as you need some weight there to help create balance in the room. It also looks better than the bench next to the chair. My closing argument lol is that your art was lovely. I would add it back next to the fireplace, but try it vertically.

Me too, I prefer the bar where it was. It's a beautiful piece of furniture, seems to show up better on the end wall.

Maureen and doods: I agree with you about the bar. I think the reading nook works better with the bench next to it, but the room as a whole works better with the bar in the original space.

What ever happened to table and floor lamps? I see all these living spaces posted with LED ceiling lights lit up like a garage.

I don’t think you will ever achieve a sophisticated, inviting space without human level lighting. That is no doubt why things continue to seem “off” no matter how you arrange your furniture.

J R am going to agree with @doods and @Maureen about the bar, it looks much better at the end of the room. And I actually think it frames the reading nook making it feel cozy, the bench was better next to the fireplace with your art. Am loving the rest of the room however!

Kcastle: the window treatments are Hunter Douglass accordion shades in a very light blue. We installed these 5 years ago when we moved to the house and this room was a playroom for my kids. We paid way too much money for them to replace them now. Not what I would have put in my living room, but oh well. Maybe I’ll add a valance down the road.

Dawn, Maureen and doods: now we need to talk about where the floor lamp goes (left or right of the geo chair when looking at it), a tray for the square table, and a floor basket for blankets in front of the radiator.

I found these baskets and love them, but they’re far too small. I’ve searched Wayfair, Houzz and WestElm. Any ideas???

Also, which tray style and color scheme would you tend towards for a tray on the square table? Thinking the tray, a small candy dish and a bud vase.

Accessorizing is huge in influencing outcome of room. I’d start out with cushions, which have the biggest impact in room and set the direction for rest of choices and moving forward will be easier. Using yellow below as it seems you are heading in that direction. Takes a lot of experimenting to get the right combination of styles, colors, patterns and sizes

Keep experimenting with all purchases and take your time to get the right pieces.

- Having the floor lamp in front of window may not look great, so try moving chair over a bit and placing an Adjustable floor lamp (potentially table from couch) and art above. This arrangement will emphasize the corner and feel more complete.

- I‘d stay away from the tray and little items on the chunky, masculine table. I think you need more bulky and interesting pieces and I had some suggestions for you in earlier posts to help.

- If you search Pinterest, there are all kinds of sites for baskets. Amazon, Etsy, Target, Ovetstock, Fair Trade, and lots of small companies. I’d stick to a more simple basket so you have more choices in what you can add.

- Suggest adding lighting in seating area - floor lamp near couch, on table between chairs, adding a console under window or even moving the bench to window and add a console under your art.

I think you need a different rug. Something with blue, white, gold/yellow.

J R could we have a photo of the room's final layout, with the bench back next to the fireplace. I'm liking what Maureen is suggesting. I'm leaning toward gold actually on the sofa, bringing in the gold from the bar and the metal pieces on the wall and textured white/off white pillows on the blue sofa and natural baskets as Maureen shows.

Only greenery on the chunky table, no small feminine pieces, unless they really really add to the space. Sorry to loop back to this but I am really wanting to see the square chunky table between the ombre chairs at the end of the sofa and the twisted table next to the geo chair.

What about a task light there that sits behind the chair, not right or left and comes over the top, and I love the gold, that is what I would choose too.

I haven't had a chance to search for poufs or pillows or lamps, my father in law is very very ill and we're trying to get him into hospice. This is a welcome diversion, but I have to stay available to my family right now too. It's looking really wonderful.

Just a couple ideas...bringing in the faux fur in two places to add fun and texture. And the reading nook with the lamp behind the chair.

I know the bar isn't here any more but again just for some ideas, maybe too many pillows, but again the faux fur to pull in the texture from the pouf ottoman above and these pillows are actually gold metallic (from Bed Bath and Beyond) pulling in your gold from the bar and the wall sculptures. Maybe you want something softer, but again just to see where it goes with additional decor in place. And on the mantle I just covered up what was there with a grouping of three.

I love the faux fur pillows! The ottoman might be too daring for me. The lamp coming from behind the chair feels spaceship like to me... and yes, I love the pop of green on the square table (ps: it doesn’t fit on the side of the couch, trust me). I can move the twist table next to the geo chair, no problem.

J R the lamp was to give a sense of it behind the chair and I was bringing in the gold and the circle shape from the bar next to it, but if it feels too ufo'ish I get it. Lol.

The ottoman is fun, and it also pulls in the faux fur from the sofa, but if it feels too daring I get it. I thought it was fun, but it could be scary with a white fur ottoman and kids too. I don't know your style, it's definitely mine, but just playing with textures. Hope it helped give you some ideas.
