I have not had this kind of experience with Home Depot, but, in my opinion I would send everything back to Home Depot for a full refund. Let them decide what to do with it.

Mistakes happen. Since you ordered the cabinetry and sink from the same supplier, I would expect them to correct the error at no cost to you even if a sink which fits the base cabinet costs more. In light of the effect on the project schedule, perhaps they will give you the sink at no cost. If the "expert" in the cabinet dept. can't make it right, I suggest a conversation with the store manager.

Your problem is one I've encountered too frequently when dealing with Home Depot's kitchen sales people. I've known people who've waiting months for completion of their project due to errors in measurements, wrong cabinets ordered, cracks in cabinets, etc.

It may be a regional issue, but I would not be looking there for a kitchen remodel.

Lowes had similar issues with my Kitchen Order thirteen years ago. They made it right at no cost to me, and did so in a timely manner.

The issue with big box stores and Home remodels is the simple fact that all the contractors are working for the store not you. I want my contractor working for me. That way I get to say what is acceptable and what is not and I don’t need to route everything through the middle man ( the big box store ). Experience and reputations matter. Problem is one week someone may indeed get a great job from one of the big box stores. However if contract something later from a big box, , I have no idea or control over the selection of the contractor. And maybe my neighbor got a great one and a great job and I get someone not as good. If I hire my own remodeler and they did an excellent job for my neighbor I should get the same quality work.

I've waited 4 months and the two new cabinets that they installed as part of our remodel, are too deep - doesn't make any sense that they would stick out 2 inches from the wall/counter - super worried that this is going to delay us another 4 months from getting the kitchen finished. Not happy.

Heather, are you adding new cabinets to existing cabinets?

If so, the problem is likely that the old cabinets were not built to the standard 24" depth (front to back measurement) for base cabinets.

If you need anything other than a 24" deep base cabinet, it is going to be a special order.

Or your contractor screwed up the measurements. Not much excuse for that. Make sure the pay for the mistake, .

The big box stores hire installation contractors based on the lowest price. The typical result is what you should expect from the lowest guys in the contractor food chain.

Big box stores usually offer a fixed price model. An installer who charges $250 per hour and an installer who charges $80 per hour will both get the same for installations.

It is an economies of scale model. The big box stores offer more and more steady work at less money. The quality of installers at big box stores in any area will be inversely related to the number of high end installs in an area.

I wouldn't assume it is an install quality issue. If Heather has custom depth cabinets and didn't realize it, this where we are at. I can't imagine even bad installers installing cabinets 2" proud.

This thread has some age on it. My recent post responds to the one immediately above which suggests the contractor may have screwed up the measurements. If field measurements were involved, that may very well be the case.
