Yes, it is a herringbone and yes, it looks a bit off. The area on the left side under the hood looks different from the rest of it, like the tiles are smaller than the others. However, I think it's an optical illusion because those tiles are all dark instead of being alternately light and dark.

I personally do not care for herringbone, and this one is very busy, so I would replace it. But if you like it except for that one area, then perhaps you can call in a tile installer to see if he/she can fix that specific area.

This is not really “fixable” ...replacing it is the best option...it looks like the color inconsistency is noticeable on several areas...and the poor layout is noticeable....also it looks like keeping it clean may be a challenge....if you haven’t signed an agreement or bought the house yet...i would ask for an allowance for replacement....

It's part of the pattern of the mosaic, but as with most hand-cut stone, tile setters have to be careful about how they place the sheets of stone mosaic when installing. There are simply too many of the same color & size grouped in one area. Live with it a while. You may find other items you want to change in the kitchen. Maybe this wall looks different with th hood light is turned on.
