okay Ill just wait for it to plump out. I had only changed tac (ie tried to create tropical environs for it) 2 days before I wrote on this forum, so effectively what you see in the pics is from full sun exposure. I think the pot looks small in the pics, theres plenty of room for the roots to grow still from what I can tell.

you are coming out of winter down under ... i dont know AU ... but full winter sun might be very different than full summer sun ... i dont know ...

and i mention small pot.. for you to observe if the pots heat up too much in full summer sun creating a watering issue .. even for a cacti ... not in regard to room for more roots ... nothing likes its root cooked n an artificial pot ...

and it might depend where you place the pot .. and how sun/heat affects that .. e.g. a black top versus a table... i dont know ...

just listing some variables to consider other than those you listed ...

Lauren your pot is fine, as long as it has a drainage hole at the bottom. The last thing you want to do is over pot your cactus. Most succulents do better when underpotted.

Sounds like you’ve done you research on your cactus and have learned that this cactus does not come from an arid desert, but is an epiphytic cactus that lives in the forests of Mexico. So your cactus shouldn’t be sitting in all day summer sun. In the summer it would do best hanging in a tree where it will get dappled light or like mine, I keep it on my porch where it gets bright indirect light. Even it would do fine with a few hrs of the earliest morning summer sun, but by 11am it should be in the shade. Too much sun would make this cactus get scarred up and yellow. Trust me I know from putting too many epiphytic cactus in too much sun🙂. Here’s some more Info if you want about Epiphyllum, this cactus is no longer an Epiphyllum and has been reclassified as a Disocactus, but the info still applies.

Sorry it took me a couple days to get back to you, but here’s a pic of my Disocactus anguliger. When I first bought it it was only two little pieces, this summer it has really taken off.

As you can see in the next pic the newer growth is lighter in color and thin.

One more thing make sure to put your cactus in a spot with good airflow.

It's reacting to lower light levels - try giving it a brighter position.

Lauren I found a pic of my Disocactus anguliger from April 1, 2020. You can see how much it has grown over the summer🙂.

so jealous! I honestly doubt mine has that capacity, buts lets see!
