House flood ... Flooring decisions

This summer we had a main level pipe burst that flooded our main level and our basement.

The end result was total loss of all our cherry hardwood and master bedroom carpet on the main level, and everything in the basement was compromised; flooring, walls and ceiling.

The walls have been built and repainted, we are now ready for flooring and finish work. Most of the wood in our house is cherry, and will stay.

I would like some input as to:

1. Replace the main floor with same cherry hardwood?

The walls were gold, but we repainted them a lighter color.)

2. Should we look at another color or type of flooring?

3. Should we have our bedroom and the rest of the main level the same flooring? (We did have carpet in the bedroom that connected to the hardwood.)

4. Basement ideas... ???? (It was carpeted)

Thanks for any help!
