Build lots of shelves up

above the hanging rod to maximize vertical space.

I'd use half the closet for hanging items, with shelving above, and the other half with shelves for other items. You can also place decorative hooks behind your front door for often used items, and large wall hooks in your laundry room for a folding stroller to keep it off the ground.

Adding 6” of depth gives you room to hang something like the buggy on the back of a door. And that’s the benefit of a swing door over sliding doors. But if you think you will keep a stroller there, measure the stroller! They take up a lot of space, both floor space and “air” space. You also might want to one day store a walker there. Not now, but in 15 years to use when you are going out. They do make nice collapsible “umbrella” style walkers, but a rollator takes up almost as much room as a stroller.

Will this closet be for your own coats, all seasons, as well as any guests who come over?

The problem with reach-in closets that are too deep is that stuff has a tendency to get lost in there. If you live in a cold weather climate, however, and you have lots of bulky outerwear, it might give you a bit more room so the closet doesn't feel completely stuffed.

I'd find another spot for your stroller; even installing wall hooks behind the door might be a better solution than putting it in the closet. Or, store it in your in-unit laundry room.
