Need feedback on our living room.

We‘ve just added the emerald green chairs; the previous ones were able yellow. So I may need to change out the pillows and throws. Suggestions welcome on what should be added/removed from the space. Thanks in advance.

I don't mind the chairs, but I'd change the mirror over the sofa to a large piece of art.

the artwork on the other walls really don't go w/the decor of the room. (the orange certainly doesn't work w/the lilac/teal and silver velvet-like material)

something that ties in the blue/lilac w/the grays

and that lone brown chair in the corner also doesn't really work. maybe try a tall potted plant?

I would paint the walls to something less yellow. The artwork is not working with the aesthetic of the room, so change them to bigger more cohesive pieces.. I would reupholster the brown chair to a pattern that would tie the colors together.

Here are some professionally designed rooms with deep green upholstery that may give you some ideas about color coordination: https://www.houzz.com/magazine/green-velvet-shines-in-these-enviable-rooms-stsetivw-vs~96450338

A simple switch to white curtains would definitely brighten up the room and it would also go great with the Zebra Carpet. The 3rd Picture posted by @Beth H. : shows a great example of this. Love the creativity going on in the room, but you may need to pick a specific color scheme.

I do like your artwork and find artwork that is selected to match the decor to be kind of boring.

I do think that a different, less yellow, paint color would be more flattering with the curtains and emerald chairs.

Nice job. A small detail. Pull the chairs up closer to coffee table. Add another zebra rug to overlay this one and get chairs (at least front legs) on that rug. LOVE the artwork and tying the teal color into pillows and chairs etc and creating a nice cohesive total look. Enjoy! Btw, this arrangement will fit well into a next house too so you have done very well! Thanks for the update!

Thank you. We got everything from Home Goods. Funny story, my husband and I did a divide and conquer shopping trip; I found the pillows and he found the artwork., then we came together and found the curtains. I’m happy we we’re able to pull the colors together because our existing decor is special to us as got them on our trips to South Africa.

Consider grouping one chair and one end table together in your bay and one chair and end table where your smaller chair is. Since you have sconces on either side of the couch the extra lighting is not needed there and you have the coffee table to set things on. Perhaps you have something unique from your travels that you can place next to the couch. This arrangement will allow your colors to fill the room and add balance.

I've found lots of goodies at Home Goods and their sister store Home Sense. Also Big Lots. Where I am, there's also a chain of stores that sell overstock and salvage goods. Is your rug real zebra and, if so, did that come from So. Africa? I just put a cowskin rug in my LR and am very happy with it. Got it at IKEA!

@thriftyboho Home Sense?!! Now, I have to find that store, lol. Yes, the skin is real and it came from SA. We got it from a reputable source to ensure it wasn’t harmed just for sale/profit. We also checked with US Customs to verify that the species wasn’t considered endangered. I love IKEA!

@Flo Mangan I love the idea of layering the zebra with another rug. Thanks for the suggestion. I’m thinking a solid color, perhaps cream. Thoughts?

No more zebra rug. I would go with solid color one.

@Celery YES!!!! Thank you for the visual!

And I like that the rug is textured!

Besides the artwork and everything else you've carefully chosen, the green chairs and zebra rug really make the room sing!
