I need some help from the experts. I would like to replace this small chandelier with something bigger and better for this location. Please help a lady out. Thanks.

Need to know the style of the rest of your house.

Here is my living room dining room. Don’t mind the mess.

you could do practically anything that hangs. you want it to come down far enough, but not so far that someone will hit their head on it while descending.

(you may want to call in an electrician so you can ditch that track lighting and do something nicer)

your decor is a little on the 90's side, so if you want to stay in that decade, you'll need to search for things similar to that design.

maybe something like this from Progress Lighting

    here are more current alternatives

Thank you Beth H. My electrician is coming November 14 to replace this light and install hi hats in other areas.

ok good. that one you posted seems a bit fancy for your overall design. (unless you plan on changing everything). I'd pick something less fussy.

Beth H thank You and I don’t want the 90’s look. Unfortunately I can’t change the carpet this year. I moved in 10 years ago and gutted the three bathrooms and kitchen. Never got to finish. However the couch will be changed to a sectional with chaise lounge in a taupe or light almond color. The end tables will be gone as well. Updating but keeping similar color for the dining room set.

ok good. as for the carpet, have you thought about doing a large area rug to cover most of the color? for a few hundred, you could get a nice neutral rug that will give you a lighter background to work with.

I'd do a thin, textured neutral like this one

they aren't that expensive, will blend with everything, and shouldn't be too bulky on top of your carpet.

look for a jute or sisal . wayfair has this and it's less than 180. you want something in the 8x10 or larger range

or look for a flat woven rug. these are pretty thin but wear well. stay away from the cheap polypoprolene (sp?) rugs. d

The second updated one Beth posted is great for a stairwell. It’s airy and open but fills the space nicely. She’s also right about another, thinner rug over your carpeting to lighten up your living room. The blue couch will look better with any of the suggestions here. A couple of light colored throw pillows and your LR will look very modern. It’s a great couch.
