Dining room help please!

I’m stuck with the table and possibly chairs also for the moment-but open to changing chairs. I obviously need to get rid of the old cubbies on each side that were used for my daughter’s storage. Also need a new rug. I need some sort of cabinet or cabinets. Have a new light fixture coming this week. I also am not thrilled with the piece of art hanging. Not sure if I should incorporate more color? Having a hard time finding cabinets.

For right now, I'd get rid of all of the items you don't want to keep - the fixture, rug, artwork, and cubbies - and then post a new pic. Then we can start with a clean slate. Also give us a hint: How much storage do you need? What is your style? What colors do you like?

Really simple slipcovers would do those chairs wonders. The chairs are a really nice shape - just a weird material. If they have a bumpy texture through the slipcovers, you could add cushions or batting underneath. That dark table will look phenomenal with light colored chairs and lighter walls around it. Maybe a nice cream or greige on the walls?

For cabinets, with that dining table + light fixture combo, if you go light on the walls, chairs, and rug, you could get away with one or two of these in those corners. Add a lightly colored table runner and a nice centerpiece and the room would look quite stately while still modern and fresh. The painting on the wall is nice. It doesn't work in the current room. It would work in the room I'm proposing, but a lot of things would, so it's optional.

I found thislink on Pinterest and it will give you an idea of the color scheme you'd end up with. And, I found this article which might be helpful to you in this process.

Sammie J :According to online assessment quizzes, my style is transitional. I definitely need either 2 nice cabinets to replace the old cubbies, or perhaps one longer cabinet to put behind table. I like neutral colors, and maybe a pop of color.

Katherine- I love those chair covers and think I’m going to get those! The room was originally a dark gray, and I made a mistake with the brown shade I picked. Thank you for the link on Pinterest and article. I started looking through them and will look more tomorrow. Y fortis lately the cabinets from the link to Bob’s Furniture won’t come up for me since they don’t live deliver in my area-29588. Thank you for all the suggestions. I think I’m going to have to bite the bullet and re-paint like you suggested.

    That was “unfortunately.”

Oh, bummer! Here's something similar. I recommend a warm white, like Sherwin Williams Ibis White, but that article has lots of paint color options.

The biggest problem at the moment is that you’re drowning in BROWN. Remove the (brown) things you don’t plan to keep, paint a nice fresh white, then post new (clear) pictures.
