LG Laundry - product changeover Oct 2020?

We will need a new washer and dryer for a home to be completed in the Spring of 2021. Our go-to appliance store didn't have any to show us last week, stating that LG is in a 'model change-over' or some such. But I seem to see plenty of units for sale elsewhere. Any info floating around??

The model changeover has already happened but there still is existing stock to be sold off and new production seems to be arriving in fits and starts. LG washers are made in a factory in Tennessee. That state's current dramatic spike in Covid cases (and spikes elsewhere) is affecting production and shipment.

The supply situation will likely work itself out before spring which is six months off.

So, must you buy a washer and dryer right now, anyway? The warranty on LG washers (like most brands) is only a year and runs from the purchase date. If you buy one now, won't you be burning up half your warranty before you even start using the washer?

If you really feel the need to buy a washer right now, you will have to deal with limited choices and might not be able to get the finish you want and maybe need to go with one of the slightly different superceded models if you really feel you must buy right now.

For example, last week, a friend enlisted my help with trying to find a new LG washer for the house she just purchased. She had narrowed her choices down to last year's LG front load washer models, the WM3500, 3700 and 3900 and the superceding WM3400, 3600 and 4000 models. (Yes, I know the numbering scheme seems odd, but that is how it is.)

Anyway, only the local Home Depot had any of the new models in the white finish my friend wanted. HD had the WM4200 and WM3600 models, but those were their display models. The staff were unable to tell us when they would actually have any for delivery. The local Lowe's has the large capacity WM8100 and standard-capacity WM3600 models available for immediate delivery, but only in a "graphite" finish. There were similar situations with the other local stores my friend called.

A call to somebody I know at a regional appliance chain (located next door to the local Lowe's) turned up that their store has several of the now superseded WM3900 models in stock locally that are both available for immediate deiivery and in the white finish my friend wanted. Research convinced my friend that that the new WM400's improvements over last year's WM3900 were unimportant to her. So, a WM3900 is what is being delivered to my friend's new home.

But, my friend needs a washer right now and will put it to immediate use.

Buy right now and you will start eating your warranty and have to pay close to list price. Can you at least wait for the upcoming Black Friday sales (or even the Presidents' Day sales,) when you will likely find some significant discounts and a better supply situation?

Helpful, thanks! We will be waiting, and the 2021's will be in by then hopefully! Our sales guy was showing us GE, but Consumer Reports has those lowest in owner satisfaction. I'm leaning towards LG.
