modernize ranch home

Hi. We want yo modernize our ranch home but keep some of its older charm. We were thinking of replacing the current brick with white stucco siding but we want to incorporate some brick. We were thinking of washed brick porch wall. We would keep decorative blue shutters on porch windows but just case the other windows. We would change door to farmhouse wood grain 3/4 glass doors. Finally we would like to change the porch railing to simple white aluminum using the current concrete pillars. Please share your thoughts.

I actualy love the brick. I would white wash it and paint the rest of the house white. Definitely redo the porch. The porch floor also should be redone. Something white ... the roof seems low and I think raising it and vaulting the ceiling inside will make a huge ( pricey! ) change to the entire house

Have an overall pan before you do anything, That way you'll have a great deal of unity. Measure twice, buy once. Develop a wish list, timeline, and budget for yourself in this project. Yes, certainly change the porch railing (and same design under the non porch window - in the brick) and also the front lamp post. I highly recommend changing at least half of the rocking chairs to benches - right now it looks like a multitude of Grandmas live here. The blue shutters look black. I like them, but just keep that in mind. Also keep in mind that everything in the porch will look darker, due to the overhang. Washed brick is fine and dandy, however be aware that is a long term maintenance issue that you will have to adhere to (I've been told through this forum - not my own experience). "Multitude of Grandmas" cracked me up. I'd look up "MCM ranch" and "atomic ranch" to get some ideas. Those balusters have to go, what a bizarre choice.

I'd also remove the shutters. If the brick is only on the one facade, then replacing it with stucco is a good idea.

Thank you for your feedback. I may just stick to white siding and skip the brick. The current shutters are black but I plan to change to blue. I like your idea on benches. Thanks again.

I think unifying the front in color would help. I love the roof and the painted brick in this pic. Or maybe it's stucco, hard to tell. This idea keeps with the bones of the home, but elevates it to have a bit of punch. I also love the window and garage door having matching color in the pic I posted here. Pic is mostly for inspiration. Hope this helps! Gather info, weed, and figure out your budget and go from there.

Yes, thank you. Our plan is to replace roof to metal gray as well. I like this home and I appreciate the ideas.
