Fireplace remodel timeless but transitional

last modified: 5 years ago

Need help deciding on a fireplace design that compliments my kitchen (open floor plan) but is not trendy or insanely expensive. First pic is actual fireplace/kitchen open -the other side of the fireplace is a window. Second pic is what the new kitchen cabinets, island, and countertops will look similar too in color(island color: Wrought Iron, cabinet color: Revere Pewter) and style except brass hardware. Still undecided on backsplash bc not sure of fireplace design so any advise there is appreciated too! The island will also be all one height no pony up bar.

Third pic is floor that will be installed in living room. Kitchen will keep tile as is. Keeping the raised hearth on fireplace the mantle HAS to go. I'll also be mounting a TV above the fireplace. Also repainting the entire house Chantilly Lace white. Also this is remodel due to hurricanes Laura & Delta, so there is a budget :)

WOW I sure liked the old floor better and IMO the tile in the kichen should have aslo been replaced with the new floor . As for the FP that mantel needs to go and no TV there it will be a way too high and unless you get some wall mount that allows it to be lowered will look bad too. Post some pics of the whole space and also are you painting too?

The old floor was very cheap laminate and way too dark it shows everything. Replacing kitchen tile isn’t an option and there will be a tv mounted above the mantle regardless of whatever is done. Yes painting entire house chantilly lace white

You could probably achieve transitional by lowering the mantle, painting it white, get rid of the corbels and remove the hearth or at least shorten it. That would be budget friendly

The kitchen you posted is one of my favorite kitchens. Amber Interiors can do no wrong, style-wise in my opinion, haha. I would continue to look for her for inspiration for your fireplace. I would keep the firebox low since you want to mount the TV above. Some advice, I would consider placing the TV on the long wall instead. However, if you do the fireplace low you could have two TV placement options.

    ^^good proportions for TV placement.

^^I would go lower/wider with this design for a more ideal TV placement.

Interesting video where they redo the fireplace/TV combo in a day by adding some trim to make it look like the surround goes to the ceiling. Looks cheap and fast.

If you are not able to lower the firebox, you could do something much more minimal like this:

Will you be removing the decorative pediments over the windows? If not, I don't think this minimal look will work.

Yes will be removing all decorative pediments as well as the crown on top of windows. I love this!

You have ahuge empty wall to place the TV so I have nothing else to say.

The mantel is very very high, and a tv up there would look silly and would be impossible to watch from a comfortable position on a chair or sofa. I would have the mantel moved down to touch the the tile on the surround and put a painting above it. Find another location for the tv....over a console cabinet....so the tv can be positioned at eye level to a seated adult.
