Wanna smile? My MCM sofa!

I gave away my leather sofa to DD when we moved here. Have done without because I knew what I wanted but it just didn’t seem to be anywhere . Fast forward to an eclectic shop owner in Mechanicsville VA. I found her purely by accident.


She has a stall in a small antique mall and a Facebook page. When I saw this I just knew it was perfect. We drove up yesterday 150 mi. to her home where she has her best things but it’s invitation only. 6000 sq ft of eye candy on 4 floors on 10 acres . Almost everything has a price tag and since they are going to be putting it on the market soon she’s ready to sell almost everything.


She found this sofa in Pennsylvania. It was awful she said. Had mohair fabric but it was all too awful to save. She has an amazing Russian upholsterer. He’s a genius. She chose the same color as the original but in striated velvet. Oh it’s so lovely. He did everything new and refinished the wood trim. It’s a Kroehler and I have the tags.


We‘ve tried it in two rooms it’s wonderful in both and goes with all my colors and eclectic stuff lol! Love it the best in this front room for now.

    ps.. y’all know what our family has been through these past months. I’m not sleeping much and I’m afraid I’m coming across as “ manic” Please forgive my crazy deco saturation posts!       Oakley DH had the same question. We laid out paper and tape to see how it felt. It’s really a full 7’3” long. The thing that saves it is how streamlined it is. I’m so smitten with it.


      BP .. haven’t had one in decades!!!


      jinx definitely a very alive interesting person. We are both having some similar personal issues so it’s been a bonding process as well.

      I so love this sofa!! The color is fabulous and I am sure it is well made and will outlast any new piece you might find.


      I have been incorporating more MCM stuff into my house. It's so nice to find pieces that are so sturdy and not cheaply made.

      I was completely taken by @Sueb20 house color. Dark plum and gold... I can’t take credit for this combo it’s ALL Sue! The walls are Kalamata BM. I have more surprises with this color . I’m saving them for more “ smile “ posts. Watch each day for more ... MCM lighting is next❤️

      Nothing to forgive. Some of you know that we lost our house in a fire (and our two kitties) at the end of August and while I'm trying to not go manic you are my escape.

      I love the couch carpet combo. I love the alliteration in that sentence! And I love couches with wood trim details. So fun to hit your head on when you are playing around like your Mom told you not to on the living room couch. I grew up with one that had wooden arms. It was huge, very comfy cushions but the arms had square, sharp edges. It was originally burnt orange silk and then parents recovered it to forest green and gold crushed velvet. Sold it for a song when they finally moved houses in the 2000's. It was JUST right before the MCM craze started to take off. I'll bet it would be worth a bundle now. Solid wood frame, the arms were herringbone woven wood . . .I was particularly not supposed to horse around on the couch because the weaving could have been broken by a sharp blow. Unfortunately the only blow was to my head from the edge of the arms, but it taught me not to horse around on the couch . . .
