Outdoor Kitchen Component Suggestions

We are building an outdoor kitchen and have about a 3 foot wide space to fit another component. The kitchen already has a 42 inch grill, a side burner and a refrigerator and some storage doors under the grill. We were thinking of putting a ceramic smoker like a Large size Big Green Egg in the 30 inch space but my husband is not sure he will use it. Any other suggestions for that space besides a sink? Thank you.

We have a similar set up and we purchased a BGE after our outdoor kitchen was built. I do wish it had been incorporated into our kitchen since it’s kind of sitting off to the side at the edge of our patio. If we had incorporated it into the outdoor kitchen, it would have been well enough away from the house and it would have been fine.

I think it’s best to think of how you’ll use your outdoor kitchen. I would never store my outdoor dishes outside, I prefer to keep them indoors, but that’s just me. Do you need something else? Another component or cooking area? If you have space for a grill, fridge and side burner, maybe that’s all your family needs...

Thank you both. The kitchen is already away from the house so that's not an issue with the smoker. I'm leaning toward getting the smoker b/c I do think he will end up regretting it but I was just trying to see if there was something else out there that is fun to add.

If he’s adventurous with cooking or enjoys grilling then go for the BGE.... my husband loves his. But he was also very sure he’d use it before we bought it. Also, if you do end up getting it, make sure you have access to the trap at the bottom of the egg as it needs to be cleaned out regularly so that the ash and chips ventilate properly while smoking.

Thank you. I think he's getting on board with the BGE or a Kamado. When we saw the Large BGE at the store the other day (in person) we were both overwhelmed by it's big size. The pics of it built-in - it doesn't look that large. Anyway, he wanted to consider other "smokers" but is finding that built-in smokers are more expensive than the ceramic kamados. Plus, what I'm learning is that the kamados aren't just good for smoking but for super high temps so pizza. Anyway, so he's trying to figure out if the BGE is the brand we should go with. And by him figure out, I mean that he wants me to figure out, lol.

Yes, you can do pizza in the smoker, although I typically do that in our oven. You can do several racks of ribs, we’ve smoked a turkey a couple of years ago for Thanksgiving. We have done beer can chicken, too. We have yet to try a brisket, but that’s like a middle of the night affair.

We use our Kamado Joe all the time- pork butt, fish, pizza.
