Talking off the top, though, my question would be why have such a large laundry room? When you say drop zone do you mean mud room area?

We need an actual floor plan if the space you are talking about.

Many questions. Will you not miss the screened porch because you don’t use it now?

Would you miss the connection from the deck going through? what are the adjacent areas??

Apologies I should have given more context! The porch is our connection between the garage and our kitchen. We love our porch, but in order to expand our kitchen we need a new location for our laundry room, and this seems like the most logical place for it. I call a mud room a “drop zone” because that’s where I anticipate my kids will drop all of their stuff when they go from the car/garage and into the house.

I guess my main question is would it be strange to have a small screened in porch from a layout perspective? (The porch is about 10’x17’)

I voted for a larger mud room. You can put built in storage, cubbies, hooks for jackets, a large closet , folding table, etc. Just look at all the laundry room/mud room photos, there's tons you can do. One can never have too much storage. With a split porch, the porch seems too small, not useful imo.

For me, I like a larger laundry/utility room. But, I would go midway between the proposed wall and porch door. A bit of covered porch is nice, in addition to more utility room space.
