I agree with the comments about paint color. Warmer or even darker could help modernize the brown tile. I would also lean into the dark bronze, as that seems to be coming back into style in contemporary spaces. Your hardest challenge is the cabinetry and that white gothic spiral column (I really have no ideas for either, other than to wrap the column in fabric). I would take down the cabinet above the toilet and find some better art work that contrasts with the colors of the room. Overall, I would probably push it towards a Turkish hamam (spa) sort of look (which is probably the opposite of what you want but I think would make the most of the tile and other fixtures).

I know there is likely another matching botanical print to match what you have. I would add it to take up some of the white walls. Paint the base vanity cabinet in a similar color to the tile.

I agree the white is too harsh. I would suggest painting the walls a taupe or khaki shade to add some warmth. The oval mirrors give me a 1980’s vibe and just seem out of place. I would go with rectangular mirrors or even a larger mirror instead of two smaller. I’m wondering if an indoor plant or tree would soften the room up. It could be placed where the picture is currently. Nothing tropical but more like an indoor “pine”. It’s worth trying. Another option in that spot is a towel ladder. The towels would soften the room as well. Simple candles by the jacuzzi...the tree bark style candles. If that’s not your style keep the candles basic. Nothing gaudy or gold, the idea is too soften the room and make it more relaxing.

Possibly chalk paint vanity a medium wood/ toasty brown. Your clear door knob -- add new cabinets knobs -- if you find a way for sander to remove the swirl design on the pillar !?

I agree that the white walls make the tile stand out. A light soft green could draw more attention away from the tile. Benjamin Moore Sage Tint is something I would consider as a modern color. It would have a little more life than a gray. It also looks good with wood stained colors which is basically what you have. It would be good to have one large rug to tone down all that tile. That scalloped trim by the toilet could easily be changed to a simple straight lined trim and live with that hopefully non support column until you remodel. Benjamin Moore new line of paints are so easy to use, you could repaint your vanity white (simply white) to match your trim for now. It is a pretty space and will be fun to remodel down the road.

Thanks everyone, I totally agree with the warmer walls. I would like to paint the vanity but I don’t want it to look too DIY and then I’m stuck with it. These are pictures from Zillow so it’s not my artwork but I will look for one or two bright pieces for that spot. I like the idea of a carpet to soften things up. I actually like the column and the mirrors look modern in person. I’ll post some updates!

The oval mirrors are completely on trend. I wouldn’t do anything to the vanity for now. If you don’t absolutely need the cabinet above the loo, I’d take that off the wall. Maybe replace it with shelves, a fun tp holder, or just leave it bare (and hang some art). Then, I’d go ahead with the wall colour and start looking for art, a rug, etcetera later.

I'm thinkin blue paint.. with some brass accents/hardware will help "update" the space. The brass will play nicely off your current tile.

Don’t be afraid to paint the vanity. SW has a paint specifically for surfaces like that. Chalk paint won’t require you to sand the old paint or prime. Picking a new wall color is first. Then reassess. Rugs and towels will distract from the floor. Your own artwork will help too. I have your bathroom’s first cousin (too large and not my taste at all). I hate the blue/grey/rust tile so I painted all the oak cabinets a lovely blue (Distance by SW) and I’m much happier. These large bathrooms are a major remodel headache, so find a way to appreciate its size by doing the smaller, inexpensive ideas. Jennifer gave you great visuals!

As often happens, I have a different take. Rather than trying to off set the tiles by adding a bold color (perhaps making it feel patchy) I’d work with them. It also will still not be your style, as paint can only do so much.

Going with an organic, softer feel would be complimentary and I’d paint walls and cabinet a warm white. Hard to ruin cabinet but if not comfortable, hire a handyman To paint.

Adding accents of black will be important to tie in the counter, which is needed. A towel ladder by tub will be decorative, but also handy and add a large basket with Turkish towels

I’d remove the cabinet over toilet and add shelves decorated similar to below.

Change the pendant and add a rug to tie the whole room together

@babophz - I used a similar color in a home just a few years ago and it turned out to be one of my favorite rooms that I ever specified a color for. They wanted the room off the entry to make a statement.

@Maureen I totally agree, while I’d love a totally new bathroom I’d be equally happy to make this work. They materials are nice, if not what I would have chose. I think everything just feels disjointed right now. Trying to find the right color palette to pull it all together. If I do the walls in a neutral I think I need to paint the vanity or it may be too matchy or just clash. Agreed on taking down the cabinet above the toilet for sure!

Building a color palette for you home shouldn't be done one room at a time. Colors from one room to the next room should give you a sense of harmony. When you walk from room to room in your home how do the colors flow? You don't need the same color in each room, but they have to relate to the colors in the adjoining rooms.

What colors make your heart sing? How are you bringing those colors into your home?

What colors do you have in the adjoining bedroom? Are there colors in that room that could be brought into this room and look good with the finishes that are already in the room?

Everything in the house was painted some sort of greige so we are starting from scratch. I don’t want to make it too over the top but I do love color. That’s a whole other ball of wax for sure!

Jennifer had so many good suggestions for colors, but I like the one that toned down the look and complimented the tile. Forgive my amateur job on painting your vanity, but bringing the tile color to the opposite side of the room balances things out. Now, even the black countertop seems more appropriate in the room.
