Coating a wood table

I bought a stained wood large dining table with the wood laid in a chevron pattern, which I thought I loved. But there area so many grooves in the wood that crumbs are always stuck in the grooves and it never looks clean. Is there something i can coat it in that's clear and Matte finish but fills in the grooves so that it will wipe off more easily? Epoxy? Liquid glass?
