The Kitchen Place - still like Showplace Cabinets?

We are planning a spring kitchen reno and are considering Showplace EVO cabinets. I saw in an older thread that The Kitchen Place recommended them a few years ago, which is all I need to feel comfortable - just wanted to check in to see if that still holds. Thanks for your help, Kompy! :)

Hi cyc! Yes, they are still a great company. Do I use them much these days? I don't....but only because we are downsizing our product offerings. I still Love SP and it was a hard decision. If you do EVO...upgrade to the thicker sides. I believe their standard box is 5/8. Upgrade to the 3/4" if you can. The 5/8" is ok....I just prefer a THICKER box.

@The Kitchen Place we are also considering Showplace evo - the dealer said to NOT upgrade to plywood, that the MDF frames were better for frameless - and would have less problems?

Well.....yes, normally, I would agree with that statement. No reason to upgrade to plywood with frameless. IMO, MDF has better adhesion and is just fine!

Having said that....With EVO, their box (end panels) are 5/8" thick. The standard MDF 5/8" is substantial enough but I'm sure some cabinet people would argue that fact. Once they're all screwed together...it'll be fine. I just checked and their plywood box is also 5/8" thick. Most frameless cabinet lines are 3/4"...but EVO is set up for 5/8". I've installed several kitchens and it hasn't been an issue at all.

@The Kitchen Place I know that this is an old thread, but I am trying to get some information abiut shiloh cabinets and ”ganging” some of the inset cabinets (I think that’s the right term). I don’t like having the seam in-between each cabinet. Will Shiloh do that and, if so, is it a crazy huge percentage for the upcharge to gang a few cabinets togehter? Thanks! PS- I wish you were in IL. :(

Hi Sam, Sorry! I just got back from a 10 day vacation. Yes, Shiloh will "gang" cabinets together. Your KD will need to draw it up and send it to Shiloh Custom Quote. Make sure all vertical rails are specified to be 1.5" wide, not 3" wide. I'm not sure of the upgrade cost for this, but I would guess it's around 30% for those units. So worth it! I did this same on my kitchen. :-)
