Plumber replaced my baseboard heater copper pipes with while plastic

We changed out our baseboard heater because the cover was old and rusted so we went from a 4' baseboard to a 3' baseboard. The plumber ripped out my 1975 copper pipe all the way to the valve (15' or more) and replaced with white plastic pipe. I do not understand why this would be desirable or necessary to change to plastic since the copper pipe was working fine. Is this just a case where the plumber wants to profit by selling my copper pipe?
