The Cloth

Deep snowy-white twine

Branch to branch, forging a cloth

Long and able, firm

    Hi Mars!

I really like your The Cloth!! Reminds me of a sloth...even rhymes. LOL

Here's my November poem...which really would be better for January.

    Autumn

November she a' comin'. November she a' here.

Cold and drafty, winds a' plenty, our roses cry a tear.

Janus-like we look behind. We shudder with the cold.

Janus-like we look ahead. Winter she be bold.

November she a' coming'. November she a' here.

Spend our money! Buy new roses!! That will bring us cheer!

    Fractals

    Points stretched to infinity.

    Within and without repeated patterns

    define themselves.

    Trapped within their paradoxes,

they become a braided river or a crystal snowflake.

Here is a poem that I wrote for an English assignment a couple of years ago:

The Most Majestic Creature of All

The most majestic creature of all

    Has eyes like sparkling emeralds

And the coat of a lion

A roar that is as powerful as thunder

Yet as mild as the pitter-patter of Autumn rain

Can leap as gracefully as a ballerina

And land with the force of a category five hurricane

    Is softer than Egyptian cotton

    Yet is tougher than nails

Is wiser than an old man

Yet is as youthful as a child

    Is braver than a soldier

Yet is as gentle as a mouse

    Was born on the street

Yet rose to be king of his castle

He has a heart of pure gold and a purr like soft music

    He is my cat

Here is another poem from a poem book I got from the thrift store. It's one of my favorites:

    Peace Is

Peace is a sky of heavenly blue,

A rainbow so bright when the storm clouds are through,

One blooming rose in a garden of love,

A million soft stars that shine from above,

A cool April shower that blesses the Spring

And moments of quiet the evening hours bring.

Peace is a hilltop - a tree reaching tall,

The bright sparkling colors that welcome the Fall,

It's blossoms and green leaves that dear Maytime lends,

The laughter of children - the blessing of friends,

A small furry kitten - the boss of our home,

A boy and the puppy he claims as his own.

A million small treasures we hold in our heart,

The faith and believing that hope can impart,

    A sunbeam - a raindrop - a snowflake of white,

The moments at dawning - the beauty of night,

A dream we are dreaming - a smile or a kiss,

The soft touch of Nature - we know peace is this.

And just one more... : ).

    A Rose

The rose is such a tender plant

    And needs much loving care,

With this 'twill grow in simple soil

    And flourish anywhere.

A rose is such a perfect flower,

    God sent His gentle touch

To brighten up a lonely spot

For one we love so much.

Our life is like a little rose,

We see it bloom and fall.

He made our life, He made a rose,

The most perfect gifts of all.

This is one that I made a while ago:

    Winter

    When it snows,

It's just fun for the day

No more trouble when I play

    Throwing snowballs quickly

Every day it snows, which means more snowy fun

Remaking and reloading snowballs to play

This poem describes a child playing in the snow.

    Snowflake

Sometimes this winter, if you go

To walk in soft new-falling snow

When flakes are big and come down slow

To settle on your sleeve as bright.

As stars that couldn't wait for night,

You wouldn't know what you have in sight-

    Another world-unless you bring

    A magnifying glass. This thing

We call a snowflake is the king.

Of crystals. Do you like surprise?

Examine him three times the size:

At first, you won't believe your eyes.

Stars look alike, but flakes do not:

No two the same in all the lot

That you will get in any spot

You chance to be, for everyone.

Come spinning through the sky has none.

But his own window-wings of sun:

Joints, points, and crosses. What could make

Such lacework with no crack or break?

    In billion billions, no mistake?

Joseph - I love your "Sonnet of the Middle Aged Man!!! Fun mixed with angst! So unique!

Damask - Such a cute poem about your cat! And I love the one about the rose!

Mars - this is really nice!

Here is a poem I wrote about a singer from the past...Jacques Brels

    JACQUES BRELS

He opened his mouth and passion streamed out; wrung from his pores, wrung out of his heart.

His hand clenched in time with the frenzy of voice as he opened our hearts to long ago storms.

I bring him forth across the divide, and I shudder as time changes nothing....nothing.

He opens his mouth and passion streams out; wrung from his pores, wrung out of his heart.

    Here's another one.

I love this little house because
    It offers after dark,
A pause for rest, a rest for paws,
A place to moor my bark.
("Motto for a Dog," by Arthur Guiterman)

There was once a swing in a walnut tree,
As tall as double a swing might be,
At the edge of the hill where the branches spread
    So it swung the valley right under me;
Then down and back as the valley fled,
I wonder if that old tree is dead?

(David McCord's poem "The Walnut Tree")

Thank you @Mars SC Zone 8b Mars and @rosecanadian! I really love the poem "The Walnut Tree!" When I was little we had a huge walnut tree with a swing on it. I spent many happy summer afternoons swinging underneath the shade of that walnut tree, gazing out at the wild sunflowers that grew everywhere and listening to the trilling of the mockingbird that nested in the bottlebrush tree nearby. Sadly our old walnut tree did die : (.

Here's another poem from my poem book:

    Winter Ballet

I sit here by my window seat

And watch the snowflakes as they fall.

They cover trees in ermine wrap,

And for the shrubs purl lacy shawls.

They swirl right past my windowpane -

    White ballerinas twirling 'round.

They dance so gaily through the air,

    Merrily whirling, as if wound.

My heart delights in their ballet

Performed with beauty and with grace.

Last dance completed, now they fall,

The barren earth soon to replace.

All through the night the snowflakes fall.

When dawns the early morning light

    We see a fluffy comforter

Has blanketed the ground in white.
