I feel fortunate that I am growing two of your favorites! -- Shasta Gold and Dekopon. Just waiting for them to get bigger and bear fruit. Sure wish I could plant them in the ground like you!

I also have Kishu, Owari, Xie Shan, Armstrong, Keraji, and Murcott for mandarins.

Panzarella and Cara Cara for oranges.

Oroblanco for pomello hybrids

Clem-Yuz and Mandarinquat for mandarin hybrids

Meyer and Key lime for lemons and limes.

Nice list Dave ! I'm going to get my first Cara Cara fruit this year its a small tree with 1 fruit and I put it in the ground last season along with my Morro. No fruit yet on the Morro but its growing nicely and hoping this season it bears some fruit.

Is your Xie Shan bearing fruit and if so how do you like it ? Mine is still small and might bear some in 2022.

Nick, my Xie Shan bore fruit the first time this season. About maybe a dozen fruit. They were large, juicy, but only 'fair' tasting. They lacked the sweetness and acid that you'd expect from a good Satsuma. I chalk it up to the fact that it's still a young plant. Also, we had LOTS of rain this summer and I may have overfertilized. Still getting the hang of what makes a good-tasting container-grown mandarin.

Yes I noticed the same thing with my Miyagawa not much flavor yet.

Nick, how are your newly planted citrus doing with these cold nights? Mine are OK, but in a protected micro climate.

They are doing great and so are my newly planted Avocado Trees. No protection on them. :)

Dave, Xie Shan is a wonderful tasting fruit. Being as this is the first fruiting of your tree, one cannot expect much. Quality comes with age. Xie Shan is a real champion.

You guys are collecting the finer varieties in citrus, got my collection some time ago, going to sort out some of them. Too many duplicates. Since I don’t know the rootstock of any of them , going to have to look at their size, too small of a tree or too big is a factor now. So far 6 might have to go.

This far I am starting to see my favorites. Thong Dee pomelo is definitely my top spot. Mild no grapefruit taste, no seed. Than a bunch of mandarins, this late winter will be very busy, pulling all tree’s out of the pots, might be rebuilding their mix. 2 over size containers going to be reduced for sure. Also added more inground figs. Physical wise might be a factor now, very challenging to say the least.

I wanted to mention that the Cara Cara I ordered from Brite Leaf recently is on a UFR-4 rootstock. I'd not heard of that before.

Here was the correspondence from Brite Leaf about it:

"The rootstock is “UFR-4”, which is an improved rootstock selection recently released by UF/IFAS. This selection is showing positive results in the face of Citrus Greening (HLB), and improvement in size control."

The somatic hybrid seed parent is ‘Nova’ mandarin hybrid x ‘Hirado Buntan’ pummelo (zygotic seedling), and the somatic hybrid pollen parent is ‘Cleopatra’ mandarin x ‘Argentine’ trifoliate orange.
