Kitchen island lighting

I have an L shaped island in my kitchen, with a 14' vaulted ceiling. The island top level will be cut down to one level soon, but I am at the point now where I need to make my lighting decision for the electrician, as we took out an ugly sofitt that housed the fluorescent lighting. The kitchen is open to LR. There is a french country chandelier in the LR, so that my lighting needs to coordinate with it somehow. Any advice on size and placement of pendants, or maybe a linear one, only covering the middle section of island? There will be 2 recessed wafer lights in there also.

I should add that new cabinetry and counter will also be added, along with a new range and microwave. The sofitt was typical old Florida design.

without knowing the dimensions of the island, it's hard to say. post a drawing of how everything is going to look

The island is about 9' long. Larger than it seems. It is strangely shaped. If I changed the footprint of it, my husband would be very unhappy. Upper cabinets will be 42" H. 42" cabinetry is exactly at the upper line where we took out the sofitt. I might lose the pantry, because I feel that I don't have enough counter on that side of the kitchen. Having said that though, I am wondering if that would be a proper thing to do,

I have not worked with a kitchen designer yet (coming up soon) so I am not 100% sure of the actual dimensions (other than height) of the cabinetry I will need to fill the space there. I only know that the lowers will be drawers.:-)
