is it well established .. rather than recently planted??? ... that would be determinative to how much canopy we wight remove ... it looks like its been there years ...

what is your goal ... a pretty tree in a small yard.. and maybe a few figs to make you happy ...

look at the wide pic.. the panorama... see how they are pruned to max sun exposure all around the tree ... flip to the vids.. and take a tour of such ...

when you can express your GOAL ... its rather easy to accomplish your goal ...

It was planted there back in spring of 2017 and has grown like a weed since. Already produces more figs than we know what to do with. Ideally we’d like to have your first mentioned goal in mind: pretty tree in a small yard.

The reason it likely leans so much is due to sunlight angles, and the fact that there’s a large live oak tree on our neighbor’s property just over the fence. It actually used to be much worse, and I even reached out to this forum a few years back for advice on that. Never ended up doing anything to correct it. Just seems to have stabilized on its own.

Do you guys think just cutting the branches back to roughly 3.5-4’ (as shown) would be all right? Perhaps keeping the height in check while letting it bush out more?
