Extension cord for small upright freezer

We have bought a small upright freezer, we have to put it outside in the balcony as we don't have enough space inside and it needs an extension cord around at least 10 feet long. It is 3 cubic foot, current(A) 0.96, and energy consumption (Kw.h/24h) is 0.66. we want to use the same power outlet that we connect our air conditioner to. It is 10,000 BTU and 830 Watts and 8.6 Amp. What sort of extension cord should we buy for it?

This should work: if it gets freezing outside, you'll have problems.

we will have 3 months of freezing here in in Toronto. what is the problem with freezing?

In the freezing temps the compressor oil gets cold and thick. Daytime temps may get high enough that the thermostat calls for cooling, but the large mass of the compressor stays cold and protected under/behind the case. On startup, the compressor will struggle against the thick oil to get up to speed and the higher current draw eventually burns out the motor windings.

from Consumer Reports: "in very cold temperatures, the freezer ‘gets confused’ and shuts off, failing to keep a freezing temperature because it ‘thinks’ it is already maintaining a temperature of 0° F".
