I had an old wood kitchen table that I sanded and brought back to the original wood, not sure of type of wood but it has a lot of grain in it. I then stained it with one coat of Varathane wood stain; looked beautiful up to this point. I then applied a second coat of the same stain and it left some shiny areas- that are more apparent when you look at it at certain angles. First, I thought the stain wasn't dry but now it's been several days. Not sure what to do? Did some research one source says to use fine grade steel wood on shiny areas and another says to wipe the whole table with mineral spirits. I would like to apply several coats of polyurethane but feel like I should fix the problem first. Any suggestions? Thanks so much!
