mugwort germination questions

last modified: 5 years ago

I sowed a bunch of mugwort seeds in container about a month ago. I only need one plant so wasn't too concerned about whether they all germinated or not, but so far none have germinated.

I am a little confused about what to think because the information I've found on the web seems contradictory. Some sites say: sow mugwort in autumn for germination next spring (implying it would be months before germination took place??). Other sites say the seeds germinate easily and that ti should just take a week or two.

Perhaps someone here who has actually grown mugwort from seed could comment!

The red corn poppy flower seeds I sowed two weeks after the mugwort all seem to have germinated. Seedling are popping up and growing like crazy - what a contrast with the mugwort! Which is why I've begun to wonder if something went wrong, since it seems poppy and mugwort seeds like similar conditions for germination.

Is this a bad sign? Should I start over and sow the seeds once again? I scattered the seeds on the top of the soil as I read was best and barely covered them with soil. I have been misting the top of the soil every day. Nights have been fairly cool here, 40-50 every night, so seems like the temperature should be ok for them?

Appreciate your feedback.
