I'm trying to determine what is going on with the trim/paint in that corner just before the stair landing. That niche is a great spot for an upholstered bench. If there were an outlet there, I'd suggest a console with lamp, but you do have space for a foyer table on a rug, but I'd love to see the chandy hanging lower and above it. You could use a large piece of art on that stretch of wall above the landing.
